2.2 fuel priming kit
Hi
I want to make up a fuel priming pump for my 2014 2.2

Google research indicates there are two ways to do this
1 Attach a suction pump to the feed pipe and evacuate the pumped fuel/air into a bottle
2 Attach a suction pump to the feed pipe and on the evacaution side connect in line to the high pressure fuel pump with an air bleedvalve on the evacuation side.

Will both of these work and am I using the right connections

I will be modifying part no LR031351 for this (Is this the correct part?)

If you market it for the 2.4 then you might get more interest as the intank pump on the 2.2 might steal your thunder a little when it comes to priming the system. Wink Thumbs Up

When I had troubles with the fueling problem I was looking for a priming tool too.
Most written here is for the 2.4. The 2.2 is complete different!

The 2.2 has an electric in tank fuel pump. No need for a priming tool!

Does the 2.2 work the same as the Td5 ie keep pressing the throttle?

on a 2.2 you do not need a priming kit
it has a electric lift pump

I have recently replaced the fuel tank with a 130L steel tank.
and all I do is ignition on and off a couple of time to let the pump prime the fuel system
I remember I have done it 10 times to start the engine

same goes for changing fuel filter/

The TD5 had an electric lift pump, the 2.4 didn’t. Ford/Landrover realised the mistake and gave the 2.2s an electric lift pump too.

Thanks for all the replies.
So all is good and I just turn the ignition key .... job done.
I am new to post 2001 Defender models and assumed the Puma 2.4 and 2.2 engines would have the same characteristics. Couple this with posts that just refer to Puma engines ie posted before the 2.2 then I can see I must be more discerning.
Although I must say some of the parts suppliers also lump the 2.4 and2.2 together ie 12s caravan plug wiring loom.

Anyway thanks for all the help on this and other questions and best wishes for a happy new year.

While the 2.4 and 2.2 are the same basic engine, or rather same engine family. They have a huge amount of differences, with lots of bits that aren’t interchangeable.

It’s like saying a Morris 1000 has the same engine as a Mini Cooper S. They’re both BMC A-Series engines, but virtually nothing is interchangeable.

Reading 2.4 post and think it is the same as a 2.2 has cost me a lot of money. I even suggest to make an apart topic for 2.4 and 2.2 engines.

TopQ1967. I think that part of the problem may be is that a lot of posts that are referenced by recent posts were posted when the only Puma was the 2.4
Now I am aware there is a problem I will make sure that I look at the date of the original post. Although I have noticed some forum users even on recent posts dont advise what model they are refering to.

I think you have a point Foggydave. So many people assume they're identical they don't think to mention what CC they have.

Then again lots of people seem to think the 2.2 in the Freelander is the same as the 2.2 in the Defender. They're actually totally unrelated engines, one's Peugeot derived and one is Ford derived.
