United Kingdom 2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 CSW Aintree Green
DRL lights mounted above/ below bumper?! Photos?
I am considering mounting some Ring DRL lights either above, but probably below the bumper as opposed to having to cut the bumper.

Does anyone have any photos of such arrangement of reasons not to do it?

Hi Stuart. I decided not to do either as in all likelihood I would either sandwich the light unit between the bumper and a rock or someone would kick the unit if on top of the bumper.

Spent a very happy couple of hours fitting a pair in to the Mantec bumper, it was easy and I think it looks great;

What are the lights, daylight ones or fog etc where are they from?

How are they secured at the back

What wiring kit have you used.

Stacey if you look carefully at those lights they have a genuine approval mark on and you can see the light function code RL which stands for daylight running light.

Brendan is exactly right these are approved DRLs not fog lights. They do appear to be a quality item, I am happy so far with them.

I think the light unit itself is universal as it appears to be almost identical to both hella and osram fog/DRL units, I would expect that you could swap out the DRL and fit a fog light instead. If you wanted to that is...

Thanks for that, very helpful!

I think i'll go down the same route as you rather than above/ below!

Was it a pain to drill out the bumper for the lights for the hole saw? The kit i'm looking at doesn't come with the hole saw so i'll buy one once the lights arrive and I know the size...

Hi Stuart. Good plan, looks OEM and less chance of something damaging happening to them. Almost tempted to see if I can source a light guard for them...

Using a hole saw is one of those things that is much easier than it sounds. The trick is to drill a pilot hole, take it slow, lubricate often with a light oil and take the time to tidy up afterwards.

As for the saw itself, any bi-metal saw will do. The above link has a few more tips and photos of the installation process to help you.

If I recall correctly RDX do a version of these in bumper lights that also have a bezel to finish the installation.
