R380 turret and slickshift spacer - gasket needed?
Hi guys,
My car (1994 300Tdi) has a pretty sloppy gearchange. No great surprise there then. The 'box has done ca. 150k miles. Not so long ago, the springs that bias the gear stick towards 3rd and 4th seem to have gone. I haven't actually looked, as it's been no great worry. I know how to stir the stick in the bucket to find the right gears......

But, it's not ideal in the long term, so a) I've just bought a new turret from the 'For sale' section here, and b) I'm looking into a slickshift. At first I thought a "slick shift" sounded too modern and fancy for an old wagon like mine, but it gets a lot of good write-ups.

My question is then (assuming I don't go for the slickshift, and just replace the turret) I'm guessing I'd need a new gasket between the turret and the top of the gearbox? I've found part number FTC4510, but it's listed as being for an LT77 box. Would this be the right one for a R380?

Then, assuming I did go for the slickshift, do I need a second gasket? i.e. one between the turret and the slickshift spacer; and one between the spacer and the 'box?

Non of the write-ups I've seen or looked for have any specific info on this point.

I just used a bead of instant gasket on either side of the alloy block that came with the Slickshift and it's been fine ever since. If your stick is very loose then it's worth replacing the nylon cup whilst you have the top in pieces. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Cheers Harry,

I got a reply from synchro gearboxes themselves, saying the same thing. I just knew that a gasket was available, so wondered what the right thing to do was.
