United Kingdom 2002 Defender 90 Td5 HT Caledonian Blue
Prestone Coolant
I'm doing a full fluid service on my defender and have bought some Prestone Coolant from my local motor factors. It states, in typical american shouty text, that it is suitable for (read in American accent for effect) ANY MAKE! ANY MODEL! And mixes with ANY COOLANT!

There isn't actually much info on the container so I can't work out if it's OAT or silicate based. I assume it's OAT based but cannot be certain. What is the general consensus on suitability with the alloy head on the Td5?

I've always used genuine coolant but this time thought I would try this. I am now having second thoughts as I don't want to ruin anything Laughing 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I brought 2x 20ltr drums last year for our work fleet,
Which ranges from big/small plant equipment,
Tractors vintage/modern, Iveco vans, Land Rovers, all under 10 years old,
Most of which use OAT spec coolants.

I brought it after one of our local factor reps popped in to see us,
This was sold on the promise that we would never need to buy a mix of antifreezes and coolants specific to certain vehicles again,
They assured us it was compatable with ALL engines,
And you could safely mix it with other coolants without it turning to treacle.

Is yours the green one?
If so its been used in everything to date, even my 2008 90, right through to my 49 series 1!

Not had any issues so far, so safe to say all good! Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I think it's a yellow/green colour yes.
If it's done all that variety of vehicles with no problem then I'll give it a go. Just wanted to make sure it was a known product and it seems so Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

It seems to have gained quite a good reputation,
A lot of local garages seem to be using it too.

My brother owns his own Alfa garage and he's been using it for a while,
And there is nothing more fussy than an Alfa and its owner.. Laughing 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

That is a blast from the past! I'm really surprised that Prestone still exists as a brand name.

Its history goes back to WW2 I think, & then it was the US name for Glycol. I read about it in the context of coolants for RR Merlin engines.

Cheers,

Lionel

Well it's in. And I have never had so much trouble bleeding my coolant system! But I don't think I can blame the coolant Laughing 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
