Td5 10p engine locked up HELLLLPPPPP
Hi everyone just wondering if anyone could shine any light on what could be the fault with my td5

Driving along I lost drive and the engine cut out. I tried to crank the engine over and it wouldn’t turn.

We towed it home and attempted to jump start it but it just was locking the wheels up. With the clutch in the gearbox runs freely

I assumed something had seized up in the engine

We can turn the engine in reverse by the crank pulley but as soon as we go the other way it locks up.

The timing chain is still intact, the valves are all moving freely, we have removed the starter motor, removed the glow plugs everything looks fine.

Next job is to check the oil pump

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

When you turn the engine over in reverse is there any noise from the bell housing? Thinking it could be a fly wheel issue. They do disintegrate, it is not beyond the release of possibility that it would prevent the engine turning over.

thanks
Cant hear anything from the bell housing, but il have a listen to it tomorrow.

Iv not removed the auxillary belt that was going to be my next step before checking the oil pump. I wasnt sure if there was enough resitance to lock the engine up, but was going to give it a try

I had a td5 come in with seized engine, turned out to be collapsed tensioner bearing. Aux belt off and it started straight away! Cheers

Amazing that a collapsed tensioner pulley could resist the starter motor... Hope it is as simple as this to sort out Thumbs Up

Il give it a go when I get home from work.

Yeah I’m amazed it could be I assumed it would have snapped the belt

Hopefully it is a quick cheap fix so I can get it to wagtail on the weekend

Were there any symptoms before hand? Squealing belt or squealing pulley sounds?
Mine has been making these noises for the last few weeks when the weather started getting colder....should i be worried?
