Would be prohibitively expensive as you talk about gasoline and diesel fuels here. Water only won't be good enough,

I think it probably would be if it were to trigger before the fuel tank caught fire. Most car fires start in the interior of the vehicle or in the engine bay before becoming so intense they melt or cause the fuel tank to explode. Even if it didn't completely extinguish it, water would certainly slow down the fire and reduce the chances of it spreading. By which time people have escaped and/or the fire brigade have got there.

It's socking how few people carry fire extinguishers in their car..

None of the car ones are really big enough, they simply rely on the fact the driver of the car will notice the fire quickly and be able to use the small extinguisher very early on.

Most multistory car parks i've been in have commercial sized extinguishers dotted about the place and hose reels. So someone could have used one of these, but it depends if there was anyone about and how bad it had got by the time someone was. The place would have started filling with smoke pretty quickly.

I wonder how many dodgy claims the insurers are going to have? I mean what's to stop me saying my car was parked in there? I bet a few people will try it!

It makes you wonder if it was some kind of modification that caused the fire? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

^^ LPG conversion, perhaps?

I wonder if the P38's insurance covers consequential losses. Shocked

If it proved beyond doubt that the RR started the fire then his insurance is going to be well-pis*ed off, paying out tens of millions, doubt he will keep his no claims bonus, protected or not For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Possibly, although they have all sorts of safety solenoids to cut off the gas unless the engine is running and gas is selected. Although that doesn't prevent an electrical fire I suppose. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Just been reading the back story on this Liverpool fire and also reading what some of the people who have lost their cars have to say, quite remarkable that most are saying they left their iPhones, expensive camera’s, laptops, wallets and god knows what else in their vehicles. Strange I never deliberately leave my phone or wallet stuffed with cash in the car. Whistle For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

6 dogs were rescued from cars. Thank goodness but what kind of bloody idiots leave their dogs in a multistory car park while they go to an event?

What a waste, how easy would it have been to have sprinklers installed, instead the whole structure will be taken down and possibly rebuilt, when will the accountants learn ?
