Here in Norway there are 2 price brackets for vehicles.
Normal passenger vehicles have standard white number plates and are authorised to carry passengers in the rear of the vehicle. For a new LR Discovery in this group is mega bucks here in Norway, in £ sterling your talking over £100k for a basic spec. Your basically talking 50% more than UK prices. BUT... Norway has a sly commercial group of vehicle which are easily identifiable with green number plates and they are only authorised to carry front seat passengers. The cargo space behind (no seats) has to be of a certain capacity to hold a specific government 'package' size. These vehicles purchased with only front seats are greatly reduced in TAX so businesses can better afford them. This commonly applies to small mini vans like a VW Sharan etc, but the likes of the Defender 110 or the Discovery also complies and they usually have a dog guard / cargo guard behind the front seats to protect the driver in a collision. These green plate vehicles are not limited to companies though, so if you have no family for example or need for back seats you may buy one, Or indeed a family may choose to have one family car and a second vehicle on green plates to reduce costs. |

You get a disco on your drive with very low benefit in kind tax in the UK.
Its probably pitched at the high end pick up market , Mercedes X class and VW Amarok so you can run around your gas fields in Azerbaijan. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

My point for posting it here on the 'New Defender' section was that I thought this sector of the market was going to be covered by the long-wheelbase version of the new Defender! So LR will have (again) two vehicles competing with each other. This is what I don't understand. Now left.

The Commercial Discovery isn't a new concept though as they've been availabile directly from the factory or as approved aftermarket conversions ever since the D1.

Yes, I know that, but I think the commercial Disco was always a bad seller. There was a minor point to it in the past, as it was much more civilised than the Defender 110. Indeed, I very nearly bought a new one once, but bought a Defender instead. However, the new Defender is supposed to be much more car-like, so it negates the point of a commercial Disco.

tookaphotoof is probably correct, the market for these is Russia, South America, China etc. A few will sell in the UK. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

Ideal! I have been looking for a chronically over-priced, ridiculously small and impractical van for some time!
Actually I lied, I think it is a daft creation, but at least (unlike the Disco 3 commercial) it will be allowed to travel at DPV speed limits rather than commercial limits. Perhaps that is actually the new Defender? |

I wasn't suggesting that the commercial version of Discos 1 to 4 inclusive were daft, since they were big useful rugged vehicles. Disco 5 however seems too small and far too expensive to be a serious contender. I am sure it will sell well though to a certain clientelle.

What are you basing that on? I’ve only sold new commercials as Disco 3 and 4 (plus used disco 2) so cant comment on Disco 1 commercial sales. I’ll be annoyed if I don’t have a couple of deposits on Disco 5commercial by end of tomorrow. |
