Loss of heat / high coolant temp - just for a second though
hello everyone

looking for some of your expert opinions on potential root cause of an issue that occurred today.

200tdi 94 110 ~150k miles on it

never had any temp issues with it, always got very good heat for the cabin heat.
No observed loss of coolant (no leaks, no white smoke and reservoir never seems to change levels)
Coolant and radiator replaced about 1000 miles ago
consumes oil (quart per 750 miles) I assume this is either valve guide or turbo related... investigation ongoing this week

Now onto the weird occurrence

After a short drive (10 miles) the temp had come up to normal and i was cruising at around 50. Good heat from cabin heater, was on full and warming up nicely

Approached a roundabout down through the gears into second.
Exit the roundabout into 3rd and notice cold air blowing, looked down and temp gauge was rising quickly
lift off the throttle and slow to ~20mph on the hard shoulder
Temps comes immediately back down and heat resumes in the cabin

drover another 20 miles at 40-60mph without issue

would love to hear the theories of where I should go?
Cracked head?
Blockage in the coolant system?
Air lock in coolant?
water pump dying?

Air in the system after the radiator was changed?. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Sounds like an air lock - on my 200Tdi when I put my radiator back in, my heater was blowing cold until all of the air was out.

Hey guys, I agree it seems like an odd air lock.

Does anyone experience this kind of condition well after a radiator change (it was about 1000 miles ago with no symptoms until now)?
