Bloody rivnuts....
My rear flip down step over time has siezed up as i don't use it and today i tried to flip it down to aid washing the roof well the rivnuts popped and the step landed on the ground. I replace them with better bolts and washers but the one nearest the centre is a pig to get a washer and nut on.
Stupid design. Two little rivnuts when four would spread the load better.

That's why they used riv nuts.

A better design would have been to weld on captive nuts on all the chassis during chassis production, then just leave them empty when a step wasn't fitted. I mean the station wagons for example still have the captive nuts in the B pilars for the commercial bulkhead.
