Hello all. Is fitting Silicon Hoses to a 2.4 Puma an 'Everyman' job or a technical job? Considering the upgrade and wondering if I can (should) tackle it DIY.

Yup, intercooler. Thank you. As with Tommo, likely do it with intercooler, just wondering what needs to be done by a pro and what I can tackle... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Hmm... I would be interested to know about the coolant and heating hoses. I already have the intercooler hoses and want to change out what I can change out to silicon as age is showing with some of the hoses. |

I changed out the hoses on my MG RV8 ( 3.9cux Rover ) and found out they dont bond to the metal as easily as rubber. As I am thinking about renewing them I leaning too rubber hoses firstly. They are six years old and I would rather change them in the workshop on the hoist as appossed too the side of the road.

They are a fiddle, just hope the jubilee clips are in the right place to get a long socket and extension on to them
Took me about an hour to swap mine to stainless Click image to enlarge |

There is a very good 'how to' on here that I read through prior to doing mine but I cant find it - at least I think it was on here
Anyway I dont have aircon and I replaced the standard intercooler which I believe makes it easier. It was still a right faff. The guide said remove the airbox. I tried with all my strength to pull it out but realised I didnt need it out anyway and left it in. I also couldnt see how to remove the bottom half of the engine fan shroud without draining the cooling system so did some surgery to the shroud with my dremmel. I believe there is some cutting to be done with the bigger intercoolers? If I find the guide I will post a link. Also dont reuse the old jubilee clips get some of those stainless banded jobs. |

Would imagine it is a complete coolant drain to replace all hoses and once coolant is out of the way I would start by replacing one hose with a new hose and systematically work my way round and use new jubilee clips. The snag could be having new hoses separated into intercooler / heating / coolant.

Definite full coolant drain, and bleed after re fitting.
I do indeed believe a systematic approach is a must, one at a time. Don't remove every one. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

I have had all my hoses changed for silicone ones as they were showing there age, i got my indy to do it and for a while all was ok, then she went in for a 6,000 mile service and had a call from them saying they have had to put a oem water hose on as the silicone had delaminated from the inside so just make sure you get the best ones you can mine were the middle of the range 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. "Considering the upgrade..."
NOT trolling, genuinely curious. What advantages do silicone hoses give over normal ones? In a squillion miles I've never had a hose fail. Plastic T-connection(s), radiator pipes etc., but never the hose itself. Some of the big ones that have smaller branches off them look a bit "fragile" at the weld, but are these even made in fancy coloured (I was gonna write poncy but that's perhaps too emotive) silicone?
