Td5 90 - Duck under the bonnet!
I have been experiencing a rubbing like noise coming from what sounds like the front drivers side wheel. It is intermittent (tends to return after a bit of off roading) but then persists for a while. My wife describe the noise as sounding like there is a duck under the bonnet, this is a fairly accurate description.

My first thoughts were towards the swivels, but upon further inspection and re-greaseing that appears to not be the problem. The break pads and discs also appear to be fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I think I may have the same issue. Woop woop rubbing noise, intermittent, persists for a while and then gone for a couple of weeks before returning. Worse when cold, gets better when warmed up. Sometimes starts up when turning to the left, eases when backing off throttle. Worse if it's been wet, started up again after a wash and been with me for a couple of days. Checked wheel bearings and swivels for play, also UJ's. Really odd it can go away for 2-300 miles and then return.

Djcla - your noise does sound like release bearing. My noise goes when clutch depressed.

Dorsetsmith - would sawtooth tyre wear be intermittent?

Ibexman - I'll look at the belt

True to it's intermittent nature no noise on the way to work today. Previous 3 days it was there!

Is that a cheap job to get done or are you better off doing the clutch etc at same time? I got 170k on clock and not aware of any major work in its past.

Timbotim - when you say you regreased the swivels do you mean you refilled them with one shot?

Reason I ask is I had a very similar sound noise somewhere between a duck quacking and a seal begging for fish !

Seemed to occur at low speed when turning left

My noise was banished by refilling both swivel hubs with one shot - both of mine appeared to be dry
