Td5 not starting
We are at our witt"s end with my friend's TD5. What started as just cranking over for too long before starting has now become cranking over and never starting.

What we've done:

New starter
New injector seals
**NEW CRANK SENSOR**
Fuel pressure regulator
Injector loom
Fuel filter and the non return valve
Rewired crank sensor wiring with shielding

It repeatedly comes up with noisy crank signal. I know that sensor is the only thing stopping it, but I'm completely lost now on what the issue Could be.

Can anyone help? Thanks 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

What is your voltage while starting? If it is below 9V somewhere ecu shuts down and it will not start at all.
The engine will be cranking but it won't start. Roel

Not 100% sure but he has a brand new lifetime warranty halfords battery and a split charge, and it whizzes round very quickly. He's tried split charge disconnected isolated and connected all to no avail. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Have you tried bump starting it had this before would crank over until the battery was dead but would fire right away with a tow, turned out the starter was corrupting the crank sensor signal which we could view on the nanocom. The signal was erratic on cranking but perfect when bump starting. Changed the starter and boom problem solved

Could it be the rubber dobries on the dampener on the aux belt drive stuff. Sorry for being technical but the brain is dead from a day at work. I am just thinking of a mate who sourced a rough running Freebie to the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper.

The other is to ensure the engine has a good earth otherwise it tries to use the loom. Had this with the disco.

My TD5 starting was much improved by running an extra negative wire from the earth point in the ECU compartment to the battery.

Thanks guys, he gave up and took it to local specialist.

Can't quite remember what the issue was, but it starts a treat now. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

If it's not too much bother can you find out and post what the issue was.

A low voltage while cranking stops the fuel pump relay (rear yellow one) from closing.
Rest your finger on it while cranking. If it vibrates you need a new battery.
