Awww Nuts
https://youtu.be/iZjk5ebcUy0

1 missing, 3 loose. I have never taken the wheels off so not my fault. But I have just been cleaning the Defender and spotted this.

I heard a loud clunk the other day on the way home from work. Yesterday I noted a vague feeling from the rear and a bit of pulsing when on the brakes.

These are steel nuts on alloy wheels but what are the recommended nuts for a TD5 Defender with Boosts. Should I just buy a whole new set or just try and pick up the missing one.

They look like the capless version of the alloy wheel nuts that are available from various places.

They are the correct type for the wheels, the shiny version have chrome caps and they lead to problems with rust under the caps which leads to what is often referred to as "swollen nuts".

The ones you still have are probably fine.

What I would do is measure very carefully the holes in the wheel to make sure they are the correct size and round still as it sounds like it may have been slopping around a bit and may have damaged the faces where the nut seats. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I am guessing I can borrow one from the spare.

Looking on the sites they mostly want to supply the capped ones which I had on the Disco and never liked as they would occasionally go a bit wrong and not like the socket going on or be a pita to remove the socket.

I will give LR a ring in the morning and get a couple of non-capped alloy wheel nuts.

The measuring of the holes...do I need to go down to 0.1 of a micron or will my rapidly adjustable spanner be ok.

I'm not sure that 0.1 micron measurements are necessary I would have thought a half decent vernier to 0.01mm would be more than sufficient to determine if out by how much the holes may have ovalled out and any damage of note caused. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Just fitted 20 new nuts, cheap Britpart ones. The difference is notable.

I was naughty and used copper slip.

What is the best way to keep my nuts shiny?

The task of keeping your nuts shiny should be delegated to a willing member of the opposite sex Laughing
