Lowered defenders with larger than OEM tyres?
I'm getting quite allot of earache about the defender being too high, and if I put 255/85/16 tyres on, that's only going to get worse.

Currently i've got aftermarket HD springs on it, which push it up about 1" over stock I would say... if I were to fit the Alive comfort springs and shocks that will knock it down about -2" from what it is at the moment.

What size tyre can I run without any problems?

(if anyone has any photo examples, that'd help me decide what to do as well) 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

Why not fit a step instead?

Ahhh I've gotcha. I was in a similar place a few months ago (small lift, 285 tyres) went through many ideas and eventually came to the conclusion of "its their problem not mine" Laughing

I keep a lil step in the boot for anyone that really needs it, which so far is only my 80 year old grandma. She always says "well if the Queen can drive one I can certainly get in one" Laughing

On a serious note me and a mate came up with another idea that may benefit you too, that is if you want to keep your current height.

Basically involved welding some thick box/rectangle section onto the bottom of the rock sliders and building a detachable step that would slide into in to it. Would be pretty cheap and quite easy to do (providing you can weld/know someone). Step/mini ladder allows people to get in easily but can be removed for off roading so no damage done. Make sense?

Plus I found fitting a handle into the A-Pillar made everyone happier too, just need some longer screws, washers and a handle. Could even use the Naka leather ones if ya wanna be fancy! -

Wow! Did not know you kept a photo of my wife. Though I can see why you would being the beauty that she is, she has now shaved the beard off. Alive springs. Can't remember tyre size. It's dark outside too.

Vastly improves the ride, especially if you keep standard dampers.

Running on boost alloys. Don't know if you have spacers or going to fit them but without spacers the 285s may foul chassis etc so you will then have to adjust the stop bolts and loose a bit of turning circle. Jeff
