2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black

Safari doors and spare wheels.

I did have a quick search on here but couldn't find anything to answer my question.

The one peice rear doors have been around for about 15 years now (they were on TD5's for about the last 5 years). How well do they cope with carrying the spare wheel? The old 2 peice doors literally used to fall apart, making a swing away wheel carrier more or less essential. But how essential are they on the later doors?

I've had to top hinge pin snap on mine, but it was easily repaired with a drill and a bolt. And hinges are easy to replace. I don't do serious off roading over lots of rough tracks.

HD steel wheel and MTR tyre on my '14 plate for 2.5 years- fine to begin with, but toward the end the door became somewhat hard to shut and the latch constantly creaked. I adjusted the latch striker but the problem would always come back. The hinges still appeared in good condition.
Earlier this year I fitted a MOD/LR wheel carrier- very similar to the Mantec part and the door now closes beautifully. Since initially adjusting the latch I've had no further problems.

When I fitted the carrier I also took the time to white lithium grease the hinges and latches which also helps the closing, and of course corrosion imho 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2
