Insured value of thirty eight thousand pounds, so it'll be interesting to see what it makes.

It does look a nice thing and with the right provenance. I would be very tempted especially with it being a 1953 model year. Its a bit strong on price IMO but who knows these days. I would rather have a vehicle like that with bags of character than a fully rebuilt vehicle with new chassis, new bulkhead etc etc.

That really is quite exceptional, very nice. Original even to the point of no heater, no indicators, and only a single wiper still.

A very desirable thing, and I don't think the price is unreasonable (though sadly unachievable for me)!

I just hope that whoever buys it doesn't "restore" it, "upgrade" it, or do anything else to lose its considerable character and charm.

It is a very rare event for one that is that unmolested and original and yet is in such good and honest condition to come on the market. I would like that very much!

You would struggle to find another like it, if it's all genuine?
It does look a lovely 80 though. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Phil Bashall had one very similar a year or so ago for several thousand pound cheaper, very original and unmolested, unfortunately it had lost its original registration number which tended to put me off somewhat. It sold quite quickly and was soon up for sale again for a few thousand pound more. Not sure if it ever sold.

Earlier this year I was in Cumbria at a classic car show where a guy had a 49, again one owner and totally original, a lovely thing. He had bought it from a local farmer fairly cheaply and had some mild recommisioning carried out. He was asking £34K for it again not sure if this one sold.

I would say for a 53 this is right at the top of its money,
personally I wouldn't pay that for a 53, but I know some would, 48? Yes all day long!

I do know the one Phil had, and not sure of its where abouts now?

I think a more realistic price would be between £23/28k
It's a strange market at the moment, you've obviously seen that 86 that sold at Goodwood recently?
Very incomplete even down to the door tops?
Sold for £40k inc buyers premium Shocked

I spoke to an auctioneer about it the following day, he told me there were to gentlemen bidding and both had been drinking most of the day, it was just a game to them. Laughing

All depends who's in the room I guess? Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Yes Ian I saw both the 86 and the 80 at Bonhams Goodwood and to be honest I was shocked at the prices. The early 80 was bodged together really badly, not sure if it sold, but to me it was a £10K vehicle which then needed dismantling and putting together correctly. I would agree with your estimate of up to £28K for a 53 in this condition and if it was advertised as such I would be giving him a call as its the same year I was born.
I still regret selling my 48 model year 80in with complete matching numbers, it's now part of a well known Classic Land Rover dealers private collection.

Anyway enough of thing past, I have my 85 V90 to get stuck into over the Winter Smile

The one Phil had was a 1950, lights behind grill and now resides in Devizes.
It has needed quite a bit of work, including a full engine rebuild.
I will be waxoyling it in the near future.
