United Kingdom 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Galway Green
OPs post made me think I have never checked my front drive flanges, so whipped off the wheels, drivers side rubber cap had a very very small amount of rust powder in it, removed the drive member bolts and cir-clip pulled off the flange and all was good nice snug fit but was dry with evidence of rust starting to form, passenger side was all like new, reassembled both sides with copious amounts of corrosion block grease. All in took 2 hrs but that included some time searching for flange gaskets and the thread lock I knew I had somewhere but couldn't find when I needed it. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Do anyone else think "I wish i never started this"

Ended up cutting both sides off which turns out is probably the easiest way. Caliper bolts come undone, brake lines no chance, even the connector at the top under the arch is tight. Can undo the one on the brake valve in engine bay so have options if i have to resort to cutting the brake pipe.

Checked the 7 special bolts holding the swivel on and they are completely rusted with very little chance of getting anything moving on them. Decide not to pull the entire hub off and just take the CV joint out. Get to the filler plug and it's not going anywhere.

Given up now it's raining. Think i could do with a welder so that i can cut some bolts take the entire swivel off weld some nuts on and fix the problem properly.

On a different note i picked up an MGB GT chrome bumper yesterday for some more self-punishment.

dont envy you that, generally jobs on my cars go OK but both have been liberally coated with ACF50 regularly from new, the house is another matter everything I try to do or pay someone to do results in rework or damage, mainly due to bodges by previous owners DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Hello Cactus79

A Victory is a Victory...by any means, so well done... Thumbs Up

But i'm surprised, the 1/2'' drive (if accessible and usable) should provide all the 'purchase' you need to undo
the Filler Plugs. Was the problem with using the 1/2'' Drive or Thread...or both... Question

It looks like you have welded a stud in place, and now out, will no doubt swap in new Plugs...

Just Curious... Shocked

Defender passed the MOT on Monday, it's all back together for a day and now the headlights have stopped working probably due to the new Osram nightbreakers i put in whilst it was off the road. Looks like it's the dim dip relay behind the dash. New relay ordered.

I still think the MUD LED interior light is one of the best things i've bought for this defender, so dam bright.

FWIW... I am always very thankful to my 110s previous owners who cared well for my beloved Defender. My wheel bearing blew while out on the trails last weekend and everything came apart super easy. Not too shabby for 18 year old workhorse CSW.

Wow, the hub looks new!

Circlip, spacer ring and hub flange bolts fit just like new, they slipped into place with no problems.

Must be the season for this... new swivel ball due to corrosion and a nasty grease/oil leak on my 2003 TD5. Wouldnt pass the Dutch MOT due to the leak onto the brake disk.
Pulled the swivel to replace the seal....and found things to be very expensive so far.
Waiting for my big package from Paddocks.......

I just had to adjust my left front and right rear wheelbearings and replaced the left rear bearings and seal. As I still had bearings spare and I just needed the seal I went to the local official Land Rover dealer and just had to pay €5,- for the seal. I am sure I would be able to find it cheaper but not including shipping. Mr. Green Roel

Lol at finding things in the hub very expensive! Other than the workshop manual, is there a good guide to follow for rebuilding the hubs? Specifically the oil seal on later type hubs as I think my axle oil is contaminated with the one shot grease. 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

There is a good 12 part series for rebuilding the hub\swivel on YouTube series sponsored by paddocks on YouTube
I think it is called the art of Land Rover maintenance.
