I found the Harry's Garage sort of confirmed my own feelings. I was hoping he'd be more enthusiastic to be honest, and change my mind a bit. I so want to love the Grenadier, but there are too many flaws and odd design choices set against a very high RRP.

Maybe, once you've owned one for a decade or more, the underlying quality and robustness will show through and offset some of the immediate deficiencies and that aspect doesn't come through on a new car road test. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It was almost inevitable- I don’t think Harry was a fan of the original Defender, so a later incarnation isn’t going to play well either. He also appears to have a fairly tight relationship with LR too.

There weren’t any surprises for me in that video other than the left foot space which I’d not twigged earlier. I’m 50 next year so feels like time to order one and then view it as a vehicle for life.

Yes, I think he was a consultant to JLR at one point, advising on some.of their special project cars. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I will wait for the farm video, but I think that I have gone off it totally now.

It is just too heavy. How it ended up 500kg heavier than the current Defender, I really don’t know. It is much more expensive than originally predicted, I am struggling with the looks, enough people have commented on that exhaust moulding in the footwell now to make me believe it is a real issue, it uses too much fuel and there is no manual option.

I will be pouring my hard earned dollars into keeping the current fleet running, and maybe an electric runabout, the VW ID.2 perhaps if it really launches at £22k. 2005 Td5 90 XS

It could have been mine you seen, its nearly black.

For people who worry about the foot rest, Ive done 3k miles is mine now and sat for 600 mile round trip to London from York in it with no stop apart from a very fast toilet break and the foot rest is really no problem at all, infact its comfortable and Im 6' 1" tall. The seats are brilliantly comfortable and cause me no problems driving even for that long time.

So far 3000 mles in and I love it.

I have had many Defenders L316 models and my last one was a 2014 model, I sold it a couple of months ago with 14k miles on it ish from memory and though I liked it, I didnt want to travel to far in it as it either gave me a bad back or I feared it would get stolen at the other end or its doors taken off, so drove my Connect van mostly.

Sadly the new Defender model is to much of a car for me personally and not rugged eniough, if you close your eyes and drive it you could be in a Range Sport, Defender, Velar etc and you would never know the difference, I feel they have lost their identity now the range shares the same platform components which good for landrover as its easy to build but not good for the end user I feel.

I love the brand massivly and still have a Disco Sport for the wife but the range they now offer is to much alike for me and I want more than a car for my own use of which all the offered range seem to feel and look like.

The Grenaider is a different beast alltogether, I can see it being used most of the time as its a very nice drive, comfortable etc etc.

Pete, do you think you'll be able to interrogate the ECU on the IG? like you did with the Puma etc

That is good news. I was favouring the petrol engine simply because I think the legislation around diesel will tighten harder and faster, but everything I've read / heard about the two choices points to the diesel being the better fit for the vehicle, and I guess that is where the re-map / tuning community will focus efforts.
