Items damaged by a dealer
Just had to have something reset in the audi by the dealer,

They some how managed to squish my rather expensive sunglasses climbing into the car;

I was sat inside the showroom at the time, are they at all liable for this or do i just need to suck it up...?

Normally i wouldn't be too fussed but they are tom fords daniel craig wore in the latest 007 film Rolling Eyes

Where were they to manage to be squished? sounds like you left them on a seat? Rolling Eyes

they were on the dash, somehow ended up on the passenger seat and squished...

question is, is the dealership responsible to items damaged... regardless of the location in the car?

I guess they should be but?

If they damaged them they should pay but the problem is can you prove they damaged them? I bet they will say they were already like that. Ray

I imagine that they are liable for damage their employees cause through negligence, and their insurance should cover it. The difficulty might be proving that an employee caused the damage, unless they "'fess up".

The dealer owes you a duty of care but as others have said, are you ever going to be able to prove your case? I'd put it down to experience. Leaving expensive sunglasses out on the dash when the vehicle is in someone else's custody might not have been the wisest move.

some more backstory...

car flashed up it needed servicing despite being done a month ago, i guessed they'd not reset the computer...

exactly the case so i really quickly popped in as i happened to be driving past, just ran in quickly to question it,

maybe as it was parked directly under a cctv camera and i got out of it wearing the sunglasses, but for them to start reviewing this over a pair of glasses seems a bit much... ill see what there response is.

if its a full service or a going in for actual work, i always empty the car. Sad

Did you mention the damage while at the dealers or have you noticed it later? If later I don't think you'll have a chance. Ray

noticed it the minute i got to the car, went straight back inside to deal with it... the lad on service desk said 'oh sorry' and fobbed me off, so i went back outside looking rather tense, another more serious member of the team asked the issue in which i explained what happened; he then took me inside to speak to the service department manager...

He'd never come across anything like this before, he took pics and emailed audi but i was just wondering what other people had done in a similar position

Do you have a good relationship with the dealer and use them for all the work on your car?

The reason I ask I always use the main dealer for everything on my defender including servicing yes I know people will say its expensive however when I need anything doing under warranty including paintwork issues there is never any quibble it is always done at no cost to me because of loyalty on my part, whereas others on here have said how difficult it is to get warranty done on their defenders but they use independants for servicing etc.

Because of that relationship I have with the main dealer I am sure they would replace them for me or we would come to a satisfactory resolution hopefully you have an established relationship regarding your Audi and they will be more helpful toward resolving this. 2015 HT XS 90

fortunately the Audi doest't require as much dealer attention as the defender, the only time its been there is when new, and its 2 annual services,

it is however a rs4 with all the trimmings, hopefully this plays into my favour rather than it being a base spec a3... i should hear from them on Tuesday
