TD5 2001 90 Transfer box upgrade
Hi, I am thinking of swapping out my transfer box for a Discovery box to allow motorway cruising to be a bit more pleasant.

Can anyone give me the definitive box type I need to be looking for if I want to retain all my original features; Diff lock, switch output etc.

I'm told a box from an automatic Disco would be better as it would have been stressed less. True?

Ball park figure for the right box would be???

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Mike

Have just done this using a late D2 auto transfer box bought from a forum member. One thing that you need to look out for is whether there is a speedo drive fitted in the output housing - 'face lift' D2 transfer boxes did not have them as the speedo drive was taken from an ABS sensor in the OSF wheel. That means if you have a late D2 transfer box you will need to remove the output housing & shaft from your old transfer box & fit it to the D2 one. Hope this helps.

I've got a 1.2 tx box that I bought to fit in mine as mine was making a death howl. I ended up having mine rebuilt last week when the clutch and dual mass failed so i've still got this one and im going to shift it on.

It's from a v8 90 so the CDL etc are all present and correct. I've not used it but accepted on good faith that its a good working unit done around 90k miles.

I will accept what I paid for it (100) or stick it on ebay 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
