Hinge bolts.....?
Hi,

We have a Puma 110, loving our Landy, Ive noticed that the bolts rust a little leaving a rusty color water mark each time it rains. Is there an option of Stainless bolts and anyone know the best place to get them. If not any thoughts?

Thanks yes I found some, but thought I'd ask as I'm sure there are differing degrees of quality, so any recommendations welcome

Nak are reputedly the best, speak to Brendan at Overlander.com a sponsor of this site alternatively spray you existing bolts occasionally with ACF50 DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
Buy new mild steel genuine bolts.
Take old rusty out one at the time.
Clean hole well with a thin paint brush first dipped in Weicon paste.
Replace by a new genuine mild steel bolt dipped in ample Weicon paste.
Any remaining genuine mild steel bolts which are still rust free, also take them out, dip in Weicon paste, and put back.

If you do a search on here with the words "original mild steel bolts Weicon paste" you will get more info.

The Nakatanenga stainless bolt kits are the most comprehensive available in the UK market.

The door bolts are the genuine shape heads. We hear that when people use google and various market places for non genuine headed door bolts sometimes they have to be reshaped!

The stainless bolt kits from Nakatanenga come with anti seize paste as standard which other UK suppliers do not supply.

Available as naked stainless or black stainless.

^^^^ Very very good too, often corroding OE bolts are a let down to look at on an otherwise brilliant looking Defender.

Thanks guys, will order the Nak bolt kit from Overlander today, thanks for the advice.

Sorry for the stupid question, but as a Landy novice, is it just a case of removing each bolt one by one and replacing with the new one of the same length etc, or is there a nut inside the car I need to locate too?

Most of them have captive nuts, those that don't are on the doors themselves and are pretty easily accessible.
Just do one by one. Thumbs Up

Depends if the captive nuts are in good condition but often the mild steel cradle they sit will have rusted and taking the bolt out breaks the cradle or more often than not they move. In which case you will have to remove both bolts and pull the hinge away to either resit the captives or replace, still an easy job though.
If you have to replace the caoptives order stainless steel ones so you will not have any problems in the future.
