Heated front screen upgrade
Hi, I would like to have this upgrade done at some point, what other wiring etc would I need apart from a switch and actual heated screen itself?

Thanks

You will need a relay to handle the (considerable) power draw plus the appropriate wiring. If you want to be posh then use a timer relay which will switch off the screen after a certain length of time to save you forgetting. Otherwise you will need a well lit switch or a dash warning light wired in.

Thanks, I have been looking on the web and it seems you can get kits to do this from various places

I fitted a heated front screen. VGS supplied the glass and mobilecentre supplied the wiring loom with factory switch. Indistinguishable from factory installation and works correctly. Can't accidentally be left on etc Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Great and thanks for the responses, thats given me a good point where to start and what I need and where to go Thumbs Up

I dont suppose by chance that being a CSW it would already have a loom? My old Discovery 2 had the loom all I needed was a switch/fuse and screen to do the upgrade.

LRO or LRM did a DIY article some time ago.

It used a timer relay and switch but the loom was made to suit. Not sure if was enabled by the engine run signal like the standard LR fit. This is essential unlesss you want to flatten your battery fairly quickly! Big Cry

If I was retro fitting one I think I'd go with the pre made Mobile Centre loom mentioned above Thumbs Up

Ok thanks, I had a look at the edges of the screen and there are no chunky cables running either side so assume there's no loom. Think I will look at getting the vgs loom with timer relay then sort the screen at a later date through insurance Smile

Good thread, this is on my list of things to do before winter.

Has anyone put the screen in themselves? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

I'd swap mine for a non-heated version if I could. Never needed it so far and I don't like the wires. You can see reflections (oncoming traffic) and sadly I also see the wires by day Sad

I fitted an aftermarket screen and a Britpart wiring kit.

The kit came with an OE switch. Wiring was not difficult but took me an afternoon. Having a heated windscreen is great in the Winter, the best modification l have made to my Defender, and l can't say l have ever noticed the wires in the screen.

I picked up a whole kit from Masai 4x4 incuding tinted screen wiring loom and switch. Best price I could find anywhere. It has performed flawlessly and we have real winters here, unlike the UK which is really just a cool summers night in comparison. Minus 30+ for weeks on end and I use it daily. Its works great! 👍 Highly recommed Masai. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)
