Laning today
SWMBO had a free ticket given to her for today for the Flower show at Hampton court.

So I took her up there. Gardens are not my thing, so took the 110 and said I'd do a few lanes for the afternoon around Surrey (have plenty of maps marked up)

We did the National trust place at Polesdon Lacey again as upstairs was now "open" (only one bedroom if anyones interested)

Anyway, I ended up back around that area exploring a few byways. Most dry and dusty, few overgrown, bit of mud on some (can't believe they're still wet)

But.... what a lot of complete w@nkrs out on the lanes as well.... sour faced dog walkers (just because they bought a house that sits next to a 3 byway junction.. I waved and smiled, was gone in 10 seconds, but the lime-eating-sour-puss face she had Laughing )

Then the mountain bike that wasn't stopping for anyone... well, apart from my 110 after I'd just met the nice approachable woman below....

Byway right off of the main road into the NT place at Polesdon... quote narrow (one vehicle width), runs around the top of a load of stables, so says it all really...

I meet a woman on a horse, so I stop, reverse up a bit to a widening, turn engine off, becon her on...

"YOU'LL HAVE TO GO FURTHER BACK, THERE'S NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR ME"

Exact words verbatim.

ok, I'll take that one then...
I reverse up some more...

find another widening of the track..

"STILL NO ROOM, GO BACK"

I shout, "well thanks for being grateful"

and reverse about 1/4 mile to a wider bit. stop, engine off.

She hufs and puffs as she comes past, no words. So i say "well f*kin thanks then!"

It appears that eventhough she'd just ridden past a large nicely made "BYWAY" sign, it turns out that I was in the wrong by being there! imagine that... in fact I didn't have any right to be there, especially in "that f@kin great thing" (a 110 SW)
Crazy, I thought that byways were for vehicles as well, not just snobby horses....

Still. I let her know that my 110 wasn't as big as her ego, and I heard an echo voice somewhere (sounded like mine but obviously wasn't) call her a nice few choice vulgar words.

Thank god I don't live near that stink hole... give me Wiltshire anyday!

I think it’s a Berkshire thing Jim?
On many of the lanes around here (west berks) you are made to feel like some sort of criminal using the local byways,
Don’t even get me started on the horse riding fraternity, or the dic***ad cyclists Shocked
We also find in Wiltshire everyone does wave, smile, and even stop to chat, people are much more relaxed. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

Can't see the irony.

Not waving at a passing Defender is hardly comparable to expecting a thank you from someone you have gone out of your way to assist.

However I do admire your ability to find diesel_jim's quote from a seven month old thread......

I always tend to be overly courteous to horse riders in order to promote harmony between user communities but in those circumstamces I would probably have pointed out that her "vehicle" is much more manouverable and can turn in the width of the right-of-way, and that SHE should back up to a place she feels suitable to pass, since it is she that has the problem.

I normally tell them to look up Byway laws. Their lack of knowledge is painful to see when they think they are so right, but plainly so wrong.

I had some idiot once telling me about “this be my private road”. It was part of the highway network and also had no sign to signify anything was private drive either. I said ‘where is your private road sign?’ He went “I don’t need no sign”. We were only walking the dogs...

When I got back I reported him to the council for interfering with people legally accessing the highway network and rights of way.
What amazes me most is he went straight into where he lives after starting off.
Good job he didn’t try it on with anyone that really was up to no good. I cannot for the life of me understand why people keep on being so bothered about what others are doing!
One can only but assume they’ve got very boring lives and litrally have nothing better to do bar try and annoy other people.
Can’t fix stupid .... and that applies to anyone who acts in said manner Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

That was a good dig-up from the past! Laughing But as said above, not really comparible, especially as I mentioned that I'd waved to the dog walker and stopped for the 'orse.

9/10 for effort though Mr. Green

Talking of that:-
“Ooh the hot weather. It’s so hot and we could do with some rain. My garden needs the rain. Come back the beast from the east, all is forgiven!”

Moan if it’s hot, moan if it’s windy, moan if it’s cold, moan if it’s wet.

Seriously though, as Ian says, your dog does not need a walk if it is 30 degrees.

And my grass does not need the rain.

I must say, we are loving the hot weather!
It’s nice to have a decent summer after all the crap weather we have had, remember Easter?
I know it’s a pain to work in it, but hey ho :whistle

Getting hot again next week, bring it on. Very Happy

And yes, I drove through our town on the way home, I saw far too many people walking their dogs,
It’s not fair on them. Shocked 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"
