So I was down at Sodbury at the weekend having cleared some bits and wanting to sell the winch, as well helping a mate out. Had a few people admire the 130 and some of them asking to look inside, no problem - happy to show that lovely FCX leather interior off.
Anyhoo, at some point I'm a distance from the truck, which is all shut up and locked and my mate says 'who's that in the back of your 130?' and I look and there's a couple with the rear hatch open, staring into the load bed. I wandered over and asked if I could help and this very tidy, very middle class couple "is this yours? - we were thinking of getting similar and wanted to see inside the rear for space" says the woman. Not "sorry" or "it was open" - just bare faced justifying her action as if it was normal. Bl y cheek. New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info |

How come people can phone me to sell me something I don't want and have the cheek to call me by my Christian name.
Hello is that Stephen? No It F'ing isn't, it's Mr Elworthy to you until I say otherwise. If a customer comes to buy something from me they will be treated with respect as a Mr, Mrs etc until they ask me to use there Christian name and not before. Common courtesy has left the building. |

I agree wholeheartedly. I get severely angered when the likes of Yahoo address me by my first name. I was particularly repulsed by our local prospective Lib Dem sponger - sorry, candidate - who left several printed letters through my door address "Dear" and my firstname, printed in a font that supposedly look handwritten, and in a revolting blue toner. (It had to be a Lib Dem I suppose)! One way of guaranteeing that I will never, ever vote for you or your party is to do that! |

Another one who agrees
Its just manners to call a customer by his proper title. ' What's worse is when they become even more familiar by trying to shorten your name, such as 'hi Philip can I call you Phil' No you bloody well can't only my best mates call me Phil. Or they get your name completely wrong and then laugh about it when you correct them
The correct answer is, "my apologies sir, I will correct that immediately" not "oh hahah sorry someone has dropped a clanger there mate" Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

People who adopt words and phrases that they’ve learned from watching American television programmes, because they think it’s ‘cool’ to talk that way.
They call men and women ‘guys’. They say things like ‘no way’, and say ‘I guess’ instead of ‘I think’ or ‘I suppose’. And they can’t stop saying ‘absolutely’. Whenever they’re asked a question, they don’t say ‘exactly’, or ‘you’re right’, or ‘that’s correct’, or even simply ‘yes’ any more. A nation whose version of English was derived from semi-literate imigrants has nothing to teach us regarding our spoken or written language. They can’t even spell properly. I especially hate when people use the word ‘Not’ because of Wayne’s World…. Like ‘I think that’s a good car – Not!’ Other dreadful Yankisms are ‘Cowabunga!’ ‘Jack Diddly Squat’ and calling anyone ‘Dude’. I also loathe the term MILF… We all know what it means. But a sexy woman is just that, regardless of age… Putting the mother spin on it is a little too Norman Bates for my liking… For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Continuing the theme, one of my major annoyances is the use of the phrase "for free" instead of "for nothing" or "free".
Free is an adjective, not a noun. You can have something free, or for nothing, but you cannot have something for free! |
