Thanks all!

Glad you're with me on the 'pizza cutters' Laughing

I have already sourced their replacements:
Still nice and narrow...

Not bad for £91! (Thanks Farmer Giles - wheels, and ebay - tyres)

Unfortunately if I fit them whilst its in the garage I won't be able to get it out again!

Long term garage plan is a roller door as per Profyaffle's suggestion, but I might do a temporary 'ghetto' side opening affair for now. Idea Instagram: l90andy

Andy, following this thread with interest. Always loved these early vehicles and it'll be interesting to see what period mods you manage to find. Radio cassette perhaps? Laughing 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

it will look much better with the proper tyres on, it really does bug me, when people fit the wrong wheels/ tyres for cheapness. Mine are the cheap crap and are metric by the looks of it. Going to cost me about 1000 quid just to get the proper wheels and tyres on! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Don't shell out £1k! No need, just be patient on here and eBay/gumtree and something much cheaper will turn up. Thumbs Up Instagram: l90andy

Now its safely in the garage I can get cracking on removing the truck cab roof, just in time to catch the last of the summer errr, rain Laughing
I've decided the order of events is going to be:
- Remove truck cab
- Drive out to fit the new wheels and tyres
- Drive back into garage.
Then it'll be at its correct ride height I can build up the hood frame to determine how much the garage door frame needs to be fettled by.
Loving all the exposed galv! Cool
PS note the two original dealer stickers, be a shame to lose the one on the window, but will be keeping the rear panel one for authenticity.
PPS excuse the state of the garage, most of the junk will hopefully be housed in a bigger garden shed soon.

Absolutely love your 'new' Ninety Andy - rare to find one so original with such a lovely level of honest patina. Very jealous!

Look forward to seeing it with the XZLs fitted. Thumbs Up

Update time - made a bit of easy progress.
First job once out the garage was to swap the wheels over, instantly makes a difference but wonder if its lost some character Confused
Would've loved to have found some nice XCL's to keep it period and reminiscent of the early Camel Trophy/MOD spec ones but at least the XZL is a close relative and still narrow.

Swapping the wheels raised the ride height by ~50mm so I now couldn't get it back into the garage. Time to get the spanners out, not for the garage (yet) but for the truck cab roof.
All the bolts came out apart from typically one, I had to get the hacksaw out to free the roof.
No idea how to get the remains of the bolt out as its just spinning in the captive nut which I can't get to. I'll not worry about it until I decide to put the truck cab roof back on.
Also found a nice time capsule when I removed the headliner - a Welfare of Livestock and Certification of Vehicle Approval to transport livestock during the 2001 Foot and Mouth outbreak.

Ahh, fresh air Thumbs Up

After considering a few options about how to mount the upper seatbelt point, I decided the most 'OEM' method would be to use an MOD roll bar. However not wishing to butcher the lovely galv cappings to allow the tube ends through, I decided to cut them off. It'll have plenty of bolts fixing it down and will be more robust than some aftermarket seat belt bars.
Not sure whether to rub it down and repaint or leave its current finish so its more inkeeping with the rest of the car Neutral
Trial fitting the hood frame and roll bar.

Had to take them off again to get it back in the garage, but at least I now have the ride height determined so know how much higher my garage door frame needs to be = 40mm Rolling Eyes Instagram: l90andy

Looks great with the new wheels & tyres fitted. Nice one.

Do keep looking on eBay for XCLs - I got lucky a couple of years ago and picked up 6 brand new carefully stored ones for my Lightweight (sorry they're not for sale!).

Roll hoop looks great, I reckon leave it unpainted - blends in nicely. Thumbs Up

Sorry, pic reinstated - didn't want to clutter up your thread with random pics of XCLs!

Lightweight has been a work in progress for 8 years (house restoration and children delaying progress somewhat), but determined to get it on the road for next summer....
