I'm looking at a spare wheel carrier, having upgraded to 235 tyres. I was looking at the Simmonites unit as being simple and apparently pretty robust.

I have had this one on two defenders.

Thank you. Does it require drilling, or just pick up existing holes?

You need to drill out existing rivet under the rear side window to make the hole bigger for bolt and a new hole next to it.

Thanks. Since I've just picked up a Brownchurch roof rack, which has support bars which pick up on that same rivet, I'll need to see if I can double up on the mounting points!

I have the Bearmach swing away carrier.
Works OK, powedercoat is crap. I also had to modify the plate that fits the back door as it had been made in 'mirror image' of what it should have been. Chris |

Interesting. I'm a fan of stainless steel! Do you mean it is available to buy there? If so, do you mind if I ask where? I might be able to find somebody in Estonia to buy one (depending upon cost of course). Or do you mean you are selling that one? |

The best swingaway wheel carrier is the stainless steel Nakatanenga wheelcarrier available in naked stainless or black powder coated stainless steel. Available here
However that maybe a bit more then the OP wants to pay For a mild steel carrier I would recommend a Safari Equip one which can come just powder coated, galvanised or galvanised and powder coated. Has grease nipples and large mounting plates. Available here We have both on our vehicles. Brendan |

I've also got a swingaway wheel carrier on my 110 and it's got a Brownchurch rack with the support bars on as well. i fitted the wheel carrier brackets as per instructions with the support bar out of the way then altered the bar to fit on top of the carrier bracket by chopping it off at the bottom and welding the chopped off bit to match up with a hole I drilled in the bracket under the window.
