United Kingdom 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black
Personally i think it's unlikely to be designed as a commercial utility vehicle, because that market is pretty well saturated and there's not a vast amount of money to be made from it.

I expect it'll be more of a Jeep Wrangler type of thing aimed at outdoor types, lets face it that's the market most of the last special editions were aimed at. There is a lot more money to be made from it, it would be saleable in the US, whereas a competitor to Japanese pickups is unlikely to make much headway on the other side of the pond.

The Wrangler is a good car - look at the Rubicon spec - I think if it was similar to that I'd possibly buy one (and keep my original).

The Wrangler is good for sure and the new generation JL will be a bit more advanced, albeit still very much a Jeep. I hope the new Defender can go toe to toe with it.
FWIW, The Rubicon does have some nice features, but its a bit pigeonholed in the off roading world. The 4:1 low range is only really good for slow rock crawling. Its can work against you in snow, mud, sand etc. (where most people use their 4X4s) Plus the locking diffs only work in low range. The Dana 44 is only marginally tougher than the standard Dana 30 and they are both still pretty weak. They both need upgrades for serious off roading with tires bigger than 35".
I think the standard Wrangler Sport is the better all around off roader. Even in stock form the LSD does a good job of keeping you going. Just add some ARB lockers ( you can lock them anytime in high or low) and beef up the axles. The rest is standard mods. But I digress.....this is about the new Defender right? LOL!

its got me thinking, my defender has got in to have some work done at dealer

so I've had a disco sport on loan for a week

my god its amazing, smooth, quiet, fast, ecumenical

just that when i look out at it on the drive it doesn't "do it for me"

but if the new defender was more definer looking but with the above characteristics of the disco I might be tempted

Collecting a part the other day in Chester I asked the parts guys if they have heard anything (they tend to be more normal people unlike the sales robots)

They had been on 'talks' etc and its not going to be one car its going to be a series of around 8 different types?

That was all though, no dates or more info?
