Not sure how genuine it is but there is currently a Puma 110 USW XS for sale on eBay that has only 8 (delivery) miles on the clock and apparently dry stored since new for £39000.

Mine's a Mar 2012 and is £240 pa, it's classified N1 light utility 4x4.

I put it up for sale on here and on Ebay at £25,750 but had no takers, even though it was £1500 to £2500 cheaper than higher mileage/lower spec ones on local forecourts ( most of which are still unsold also ) 🤷🏼‍♂️

Cheaper road tax on 2.2 because it has the dpf, just to consider. Pumas with six speed are very good for motorway cruising/touring. No regrets with ours. Good luck!

Utility Wagons are commercial vehicles so they have cheaper road tax than cars. From a certain date (about 2011ish) all Defenders were registered as commercials so the tax is at the lower band on all late vehicles, but if you buy an earlier station wagon with windows in the boot it's about 500 a year because they're registered as a car. All Commercials are about 240ish a year.

So if you compare say a 2010 County Station wagon with a 2013 County Station wagon, the 2013 one is indeed cheaper, but it's because the later one is regisitered as a commercial, not because of the DPF. A Commercial of any age and anything after about 2011 is the same tax band.

Pickups, Single, double cab, HCPU, hard top vans, Utility Station wagons are all commercials, regardless of age.

Yes, so long as the vehicle is registered as a Commercial vehicle it has cheaper road tax, regardless of engine size.

zsd-puma is correct

For a Defender just look at the V5C (Logbook) Section 4 (Vehicle Details) J (Vehicle category)
N1 Commercial (late 2010 >)...Lower VED (Road Tax)
M1 'Non-commercial'...Higher VED

From late 2010 irrespective of type (CSW to Utility) ALL defenders were listed as N1...

This is the real 'cross over' point for VED levels, JLR applied for and got this vehicle categorisation with the DVLA
I don't know how they did it or why it was granted, but personally i'm please that there was some 'reprieve' for
owners covering the last 6 years of production vehicles. SKIP

'A really nice example, straight and tidy, mechanically sound and everything works as it should. Full roof rack, and half leather with air conditioning as per the standard XS specification. Not a full demonstrable service history as it has been owned recently by and enthusiast who has done all the servicing and maintenance himself''

The on line MOT history shows consistent mileage and no horrors other than bulbs and tyre cuts/wear.

Question is should I run a mile from no service history?

That sounds familiar, I was looking at maybe if not that same vehicle one with the same back story and mileage. In the end I decided to go for one with a history and found one a couple of months later. I decided there are lots to choose from and why take a chance? It depends what you define as a service history though. Even if it's been maintained by an enthusiast there will likely be a pile of receipts. I've got a folder full of receipts for mine. Same for my previous cars, the new owners got a folder with receipts for every filter and bottle of oil. What they didn't get was a load of stamps in a service book.

My classic mini now has two folders full of receipts, old MOT's, even even tax disc it's ever had.

But in reality I've added little value to a conventional 'service history' over the years when buying cars, it's not done me any wrong. Those that have been neglected or tarted up are usually obvious. And unlike say a 5 year old Range Rover, it's pretty common for Defenders to be enthusiast serviced.

I agree there is nothing wrong with home service as long as there are bills and receipts to evidence the work if you decide to sell on. With a vehicle the wrong side of £20k I think it is essential to have confidence in the way a vehicle has been cared for and the owner/seller in deciding to go DIY should bear that in mind . Dealer service history means not much really I had a Volvo V70D5 FSH which broke down with fuel starvation issues. Long story short, fuel filter never changed from new despite the main dealer FSH! 2010 XS USW
