Defender 110 TD5 Noisy Fuel Pump
Hi,

I changed my fuel filter as it was leaking fuel. The job went well and the vehicle starts every time but now I have a terrible whining noise coming from the fuel tank/ fuel pump. I think it might be air in the system. How to I fix this problem. I've bleed the system lots of time but no luck. New fuel pump? It seems strange that it would need a new one just because I changed the fuel filter.

any advice would be much welcome
cheers

Did you bleed it using accelerator pedal procedure?
you may have to do this several times, what make of filter did you fit?
The cheap and nasty ones can cause bleeding/trapped air problems. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Just a thought?
You say your filter was leaking, was it the filter, or the housing/pipe work? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I don't think is was the pipe work as it's not leaking now. I bought this filter

Would that be considered a cheap and nasty one?

I have bleed it using accelerator pedal procedure more that 20 times?

thanks for getting back to me

If everything was fine before hand I'm sure it's just trapped air somewhere,
More sinister things like pump, pressure regulator, head, injector seals, would cause this
But as yours has only started just after changing filter I think you could rule them out this time?

Take it for a good drive, I've had this happen too, and it did finally sort itself out.

Did you fill the filter with diesel before fitting? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

It's been on a good drive to Devon and back. No luck.

I didn't fill the filter with fuel before fitting. Could this be it?

Ok, that was a long enough drive Laughing

I would try a different filter before digging any deeper,

But there are a few visuals to check first,
Have you had a look around the pressure regulator for any signs of leaking?
No drips on the floor? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

My fuel pump has always made a noise... haven't noticed any other fuel related problems. I thought they just did this?
Happens as soon as I turn the key, don't notice it over the sound of the engine once it's running.
