Rear Diff pan
I put one of the cheap clamp on Rover Diff guards on the front of mine today, as the diff pan on the front seemed a bit tinny and prone to getting bashed. I don't do serious off roading with it, but though it would be easily bashed if i hit a lump of rock when pulling on to a verge, so decided not to bother with a full wrap around job.

I was looking at the rear diff though, and while the front pan is pretty tinny, the rear seems pretty solid, it looks like the rear would need to have a full wrap around one if i were going to fit one, but looking at the rear pan is it really worth it? as it seems pretty solid anyway.

Unless you are into competitive offroading, personally I thing that diff guards are completely unnecessary! In 40 years of driving Landrovers on and off road, including fairly extreme off road stuff, I have never once damaged a diff casing.

So my view is it isn't worth it - at either end!

That's what i thought, it was more peace of mind really, and given an old style Rover diff guard for the front was only £15 i didn't think i had a lot to lose with that.

Though thought i'd pose the question before i spent a fortune on a rear one.

I'm with Blackwolf on this. Only thirty years of Land Rovers under my belt but I've never seen a smashed diff in non-competitive driving. Darren

Good enough for me then, i wont bother with a rear one, i don't mind spending (wasting) £15 so the front one i've got is no great issue.
