It was inevitable that was going to happen if you were going. When I sold my pups earlier in the year I only had one person show up and not immediately put down a deposit. They were trying it on from the start though. Ed

I will say that I think the trend toward insurance to cover potentially vast veterinary bills to fix and repair domestic animals is somewhat of a modern phenomena. I love, and have loved, all my dogs but no matter how well loved I will not go down the route of treatment no matter what the cost. Call me a hard nosed b@stard but there is a point where I will call it a day and have an animal put to sleep rather than put it through potentially painful procedures and long periods of drug treatment costing thousands.

There I've said it in the full knowledge that we are all not the same and that I run the risk of being castigated for not following the doctrine of cure at any cost [says the guy who's vet bill for the past month for one of my horses and a dog is well over £1,000]. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.

Steve,
I agree with what you say. I think sometimes it's a case of doing it for ourselves rather than for the animal. Sometimes the animal would be better off if we let go.

But how about another photo?!

Steve, I'd be surprised if anyone would castigate you for arguing that sometimes the best thing for the animal is to let them pass with dignity. Whenever I've reached that point, and bloody horrible it is too!, I've always tried to ensure that I wasn't creating a medical zombie, just to delay the inevitable act of having to grieve; for me, the quality of life the animal has post surgery/whilst on medication, has to exceed the trauma of doing the procedure or putting them on drugs for the rest of their lives. I know too many people who have kept going and had shadows of their former pets in their lives for purely selfish reasons... awful and not fair to the animals.

As for pet insurance, I'll buck the trend and say that I've always found it great, even in later years. Yes I've paid top whack at times for the menagerie but equally, it has proven to be fair value imho.
