Since this thread seems to be morphing into a "great tools" thread, I thought I'd mention these. Bought one the other day and, even though I generally dislike any form of adjustable spanner, I have to say that I am mightily impressed. Not only does it work brilliantly as an adjustable, it works on hex heads with damaged corners better than most other tools, and can also be used as a parallel jaw plier for bending, squeezing, even crimping.

German made, top quality, and available in a range of sizes (the link is the second largest).

Well worth the money, IMO.

Agree on the Knipex. I've had their side cutters for years and used to use their kit extensively on site years ago in harsh conditions. Not cheap but not rubbish. My original Knipex 'pipe grips' are not a patch on those Blackwolf, particularly the mechanism which won't slip Thumbs Up

Back to Wera - they are excellent. When I used to have my tools paid for, I managed to accrue a decent amount of Snap On and Bahco which has served me well, but the Wera, particularly the Joker range are comparable in quality. I really rate them.

Back to Custom90Steve's current dilemma, I have used the Wera Zyklop in 1/4 but I don't own one. I was so impressed I considered buying a set circa Β£45, but I opted for the Bahco at half the price. Only time will tell..

Need to look further into Ray's comments .... Thumbs Up

I have Zyklop ratchets in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drive. I do like them, they are nicely engineered.

They also get the Blackwolf Seal of Approval!

Small plus, but the soft Wera folding pouches also win over the standard plastic stuff everything else comes in nowadays.

I have the soft pouches for the spanners. Thumbs Up

That does look interesting, one to keep in mind I think. Thumbs Up

MK1 - The Wera versions are Stainless where as those are chrome vanadium. They do however look very similar indeed.
I wish Wera would do a Torx version to match the hex key type though.

This was the Zyklop set I was thinking of the metal version:

I'm not planning on purchasing got enough halfshafts issues to contend with as it is first. Laughing
I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were and if they had the,.
Always nice to find out first before buying, as everyone here is un-biased compared to contacting sellers.

I'm not sure a Tory version would be very popular Steve Neutral

I know what you meant and I'm sure they will be released one day Thumbs Up

The trouble with the Wera kit is that most of it is just too nice to use Thumbs Up

Rolling with laughter

I've got a real mix of cheaper every day tools, Laser Torx bits and case.
Forge socket set, silverline conversion bits, Draper bits.
All have been very good, but the Wera tools can be the nicest tomuse in the right place.

Some of the Torque wrenches however are well up there in the price leage!

For west I want the Draper ones have always done me well.

Norbar get reviews as well.

Hate to think what the HD HGV torque wrenches etc cost! I know some large spanners out there come in at at least Β£110 each or so. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Just looked at the price of a Bahco 18" adjustable spanner Β£140 I got my 4 adjustable set 2nd hand for a lot less than that.

Only downside is they aren't Stainless, that was what I meant.
I have the Stainless hex keys, but they don't seem to do a Stainless Torx version.
I presume that maybe down to manufacturing.

Why would you want stainless tools? Apart from looking nice as mentioned previously on the forum about stainless steel fasteners I would imagine they would lack tensile strength and longevity?

I do like the Wera stuff, just bought some electrical screwdrivers from Toolstation Β£15, and have used the Wera joker spanners which are also great if access is good.

For me though, actual hand tools I cannot find better than Snap On Embarassed feels great, fits well, ratchets and Flank Drive Plus spanners are a game changer! The ball hex and torx sockets actually fit! Any mechanic that ruins a fastener with these tools isn’t a mechanic Twisted Evil

Also as far as pliers and cutters got to be Knippex, brilliant kit and adjustable spanners Bahco made in Sweden ones. Also I have a soft spot for Halfords professional/ advanced, served me well as an apprentice and still prefer their ratchet spanners and flexi ratchet spanners to any other, combined with the warranty can’t go wrong Thumbs Up Formerly mao99999

Tensile strength is true, but you'd have to go pretty hard to manage that.
Main attraction is the corrosion resistance, equalling longevity. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Corrosion is only a issue if you plan to leave your tools outside Rolling with laughter The amount of oiling my tools get just from my Land Rovers is plenty lol. I would imagine stainless tools being more prone to wear especially on critical fit like Torx an Hex etc Confused

I recently took apart and re assembled some Jaguar Detroit spilt rim alloys for refurb, held together with no. 8 triple square / spline I almost stripped the heads out of some that for this job would have been catastrophic! Replaced my Snap On 8 triple square with a new one, some of that torque paste and combined with 1/2 gear and a gentle approach it turned a potential disaster scrap valuing 4 wheels into a job well done. Formerly mao99999
