Gentle greenlanes in the Lake District
Hi all

As the title suggests, we are spending a few days next week camping in grizedale forest and would like to do some greenlaning. I am aware of Cumbria councils web site and have had a look at a lot of the routes marked on their online maps. However, it seems quite difficult to work out the suitability of the routes from there alone. They need to be rough enough to entertain the boys and myself, but gentle enough to guarantee not getting stressful and not needing to be travelling with another vehicle. Also, the scenery has to be an important aspect too.

Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance

There's a route right through Grizedale Forest called Fox Lane which is good, few rocky snaps but nothing that can't be driven with a standard vehicle with care - like most of the Lakes lanes really. Best practice would be to go with another vehicle though.

Starts just by the FC visitor centre and heads east over to Esthwaite Water.

Only photo I seem to have of it. Following a Range Rover up.

Fox Lane is a nice route, done it a few times in my Series 1, no big drama, should be easier in a coiler.

Thanks for the replies. We drove fox lane yesterday and had a great time. We met a couple of other chaps out having a drive and enjoyed a good Land Rover chat. 2002 110 td5
