JLR Mangoose
Eh yup,

Has anyone got or seen JLR Mangoose running? I'm keen to know if it's the sort of tool that allows reconfiguration of ECU options. I've seen BMW INPA before, which gives you all sort of bells and whistles (on a Beemer), but don't seem to see the same sort of support for Mangoose.

When i had an X-Type I had one of those "Mangoose" cables, it never worked. I bought a proper Mongoose cable and that worked a treat.

I've got a chinese copy of Peugeot/Citroen's interface and that works ok, but you have to reinstall the PC every so often because it stops working.

Some of the clone interfaces are ok, but the Mangoose isn't worth bothering with, the genuine Mongoose cable is at a price within sensible reach. About £400 as i remember and when i got rid of the Jaguar i sold the cable on ebay for over £300. So if you really want one just buy genuine. The problem with the Mongoose cable is the SDD software that the dealers use, it's not especially intuitive and it's quite limited in the procedures you can do.

The IID Bluetooth Tool is far better for the home enthusiast, it pretty much does everything the SDD and Mongoose cable does and more. it's also cheaper.

Ah ok, that's helpful. It's more the software I was thinking about than the cable. Being used to the Beemer equivalent, I spied the ODB port snd wondered what I could do on a 'fender.

Configuring dealer option is the most obvious, but also clearing error codes/lights would be useful too. I presume other tools can do the same.

You can subscribe to the actual Land Rover dealer software via their Topix site. But you still need to buy the cable. Most of the time the illegal copies of the software will work, but they're usually well out of date and would you risk for example flashing an ECM with one of the pirate copies? What happens when you brick the unit.....

But for home use the IID tool is better and cheaper.
