Tdci 2.4 black smoke
Hello all,

First posting so please be gentle with me.

Have been searching for the answer to this for ages with no luck.

I have just got a LHD 90 tdci 2.4 2010.

It has started smoking (black) when I have a light load on the accelerator pedal seems worst around 2300 rpm. Bit of a puff between gears also.

Thought it might be the MAF as it was throwing up DTCs relating to higher than normal but in range - common it seems. Made no difference, also changed the EGR as that’s a well known problem. Have just had a full B service done so evethkng is clean and new. Have checked the inter cooler hoses seem ok but have ordered new to replace anyway. Pulled out the MAP sensor seems ok but have cleaned.

Couple of odd readings on my nanocom.

The MAF gives a reading of 288 when the engine is stopped and I get slightly different values of the 2 accelerator readings.

Anyone got any ideas what to check next?

Or could some kind soul plug their nanocom in and see if you get 288 with the engine stopped as well??

I am thinking this could be the problem as the ecu will think more air is entering the engine and add more fuel.

There is a similar post if you have a look in "puma tdci". There are a couple of suggestions there.

Have been through all of those ..... all non conclusive and I have already tried the suggestions.

I guess I need to find someone with a 2.4 and a nancom who can give me the MAF readings with engine stopped and engine running. We have a few 2.2s at work and they all go to 0g/s when the engine is stopped.

I'll try and have a look tonight for you. Ive not got the nanocom but I've got an autel MD802 that gives live data and pretty sure the MAF is shown.
