Air Filter sucked
Hi there!

After some weird behavior during cold days I sent the Defender to the workshop to change the VCV and check the car.
After some days my Indi call saying that he found the culprit....

Due the suction the filter were destroyed and some pieces of paper were attached to the MAF sensor given a bad signal Shocked .

The filter was changed arounf 6.000 - 7.000 km ago.

He suggested me two options: a) change the filter more seldom or b) move to another kind of washable filter that have a more stiff construction and can recieve more load than the OEM ones.

Any thoughts?.

Cheers! Eduardo

Was it an OEM filter?
My thoughts are either a dud filter or a restriction before the filter.
Is it posible the raised air intake/snorkel got blocked at some stage? Cheers,
Kyle.

Thanks chaps for the hints!

I check almost all the line from the snorkel to the filter and doesnt look restricted. The filter itself doesnt appear to be clogged with dust or show signs to be wet (in fact was absolutely dry).

As far as I remember were not exposed to heavy rains or wading (summer time in Chile). Confused

Maybe a poor quality filter?

Cheers Eduardo

Could this have caused any damage further down the line, to the turbocharger for example? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

I read somewhere that the genuine LR filter can process 10X the volume of clean air required by a Puma engine.
