Series 2A price...
Hi Guys,

My son is looking at buying his Grandads 1962 Series 2A pickup. It's been a farm vehicle all it's life and is in pretty poor condition! Not a single straight panel and the chassis is probably held together with mud! Lots of rust here and there, would need a total re-build really!

However, it's got an MOT, drives and stops ok and comes complete with the original licence plate, probably worth over a grand perhaps.

Any thoughts about what it's worth...? Looking on Auto-trader, seems like you can pick one up for about £4k...? Blimey, my mint 2009 BMW 118d is not worth that!!!

I would have hoped his Grandad would give him a good deal... but he is a Farmer!!! Rolling with laughter

Cheers, Pete YOLO... You Only Live Once...

£2000 would be fair based on the sweeping not seen conclusions.,,,

With an MOT and plate its worth £2k all day long on e-bay

trouble is prices ARE everywhere, so its hard to guide.

Run through e-bay and have a look. You know whats its like so could compare.

Is he asking you to make an offer? in which case do go in low... you can always go up.

A few years ago it would have been £500. Prices have risen rapidly recently but I would say that £2,000 is generous enough if the chassis and bulkhead aren't great and are going to need welding for the next MOT. Or it's in need of some mechanical refurbishment, like an axle rebuild. They still run and drive when quite knackered!

Old registration numbers are worth less than people think as well, but do contribute a few hundred to the value which could be easily liquidated. I've been offered no more than £700 for the 3+3 one I have on retention with the traders offering £300.

Originality adds value more than condition / wear and tear reduces it. You paint a bleak picture of it but it could be sought after if it's escaped too many 'improvements' and has just passed the time largely undisturbed.

That's really nice unfortunately. The door pillar looks like it could do with some work and there is a bit of rot creeping in around the top of the bulkhead which needs sorting asap, but that's it.

Looks like the nearside upper door pillar has been repaired already. You can just see the patch and red oxide.

If that ever got anywhere near eBay it would sell like a hot cake.

+1 ^

More than likely the footwells and the boot will need work (just like mine currently)

It looks a great project, go in low as your son needs to save to do bits to it Very Happy

Keep us posted.

I may be mistaken, but isn't that a 2 not a 2A?

I was thinking the same, from the flat apron, headlights and what looks like the access panel on the tunnel top. The bulkhead vents aren't screwed on though and it has levers. Can't see if the door stays are bolted or welded to the bulkhead.

If it's from 1962 and an export model, my guess is it's a IIa with a few left over II parts. Darren

It also looks as though it left the factory without indicators.

Looks just like a 1962 SIIa to me. Flat apron changed to curved in 1964 I believe and the screw type vent levers changed towards the end of SII production (58-61).

If the vents aren't screwed on then I believe that's a definite IIa thing as I think they were only bolted on on the SII.

That's normal but I can't recall offhand when they ceased becoming an option and were all factory fitted. Later than 62 seems to ring a bell though but I'm not sure.....

I thought that all IIAa had FF indicators, but may well be wrong. I know that my old 1961 II had them dealer-fitted.

I've checked and July 1961 seems to be the date they became standard fitment so yes, as you say, all IIa vehicles should have them as standard Thumbs Up
