 They normally give you +or- 1000 miles but take nothing as a given |

On one Land Rover website I found this:

remember the 2.2 is telling you it needs a service based on condition monitoring not date or mileage (like some cars do) it might be telling you the oil has degraded or been diluted due to DPF activity, I would get the oil changed before you go. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Thanks guys. Ive booked in with Landranger as soon as I get back. Problem is with the bank holiday weekend, I can't get in anywhere to get the service done beforehand. On the plus side, LR advice above means that I'll stay within the parameters of one month and 2,000 km.
I think it's very odd though (no doubt showing my ignorance) that, if it is condition based, I need another oil change within 8,000 miles. That'd be two oil changes for 8,000 miles? |

Decided to do my own oil change this weekend before heading to Scotland. I've gotten myself sufficiently worried after reading various tales of doom and gloom and 7% diesel dilution whatever that means. 7,000 miles on 7 fresh litres of oil. Utter madness!

Personally, I would not worry mate.
It's a 2.2L TDCi engine as used in hundreds of thousands of Ford Transit vans and the like all over the world!! Next time you get passed by a White Van Man, baseball hat on backwards, eating a cold burger whilst doing 100 mph on the fast lane of the M40, I guarantee that van has probably done 60,000 miles on the same oil and filter... and will go on for another 600,000 miles! It's a modern diesel engine... as long as JLR are OK with you going slightly past the mileage limit you will be fine
