Random question of the day - does a series 3 like yours class as a light goods vehicle (N1) or a normal passenger car? Presume it might say on the log book. I am looking at one and my insurance is asking but the seller hasn't come back to me.

Cheers in advance and your build is inspiring!

A Series 3 (and any earlier) would be categorised for tax purposes as "Private/Light Goods". If it is a station wagon it would conform to the C&U Regs of the day as a Motor Car, and if any other model as a Lights Goods, however there was no particular distinction between these. There is however a good chance that a Station Wagon would have attracted the infamous "Car Tax" (which IIRC was 10% of the selling price when new) whereas the other models would not.

The N1 and M1 Type Approval categories only came into existence with the arrival of European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) from about 2007. Since that date the whole question of vehicle types, limitations, and regulation has become a whole lot more complicated.

OK so not been on here for ages.... too many jobs on at the moment.

Few things have been done to Hobgoblin.

Safari vents fitted in Marine Blue

New Crankshaft Pulley seal (and pulley) what a job getting the old one off.

New coolant / antifreeze

Floor put down (foot wells) (still needs new drivers one welding in)

New inner mudguard (one one side)

Radiator, wing, lights wired back in

Few bits sprayed while off.

Some pictures, late nights working in the dark with flood lights. The deadline was for a Tractor run on 30th December, on the 29th December at 5pm we are still bolting the floor down and fitting bits..... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Bits back on !!

More bits back on

So we manged the night before to get it read for the annual Tractor run local to us. This was its first trip in months with many bits being replaced / added / changed. Including the carb in bits. Morning of the run Smile

So, the Tractor run started at 9.30 and we were back home at 2.30pm, over 60 miles round all the Cheshire lanes. It made it !!! probably the longest I have been in the car and the furthest its ever driven in one go. The Only issue being I was driving it with a peg behind the choke Thumbs Up as it would cut out on tick over (so job to new list)
