hi there,
just had another look at the diagrams above. the blower relay has 5 terminals which if I'm not mistaken is the key to determining if the the temperature switch and pressure switch are operational? if I press the a/c button with the fan selector on 0 the fan still kicks into action which if I've interpreted this correctly this confirms the sensors are working correctly? if that's the case I'm bamboozled as to why there's nothing getting to the compressor clutch? |

is it more likely R100 (main relay isn't working) ?
I'm thinking switches (pressure and temp) are ok as the fan kicks into speed 1 which the diagram suggests to me are ok (completing the circuit on the negative side). I'm off to check. |

(main relay isn't working) R100 runs more than one thing

yep I'm thinking that.
just going out with print of wiring diagram but I'm thinking it's either the relay or feed to it? |

I'll take back what I said about knowing how to use the multimeter..... I was getting a little concerned but pleased to be making progress in so much none of the relays were getting a 12v - gotta be a fuse. checkec all the fuses and they appeared to ok so started checking feeds in and out of the fuses. still no 12v feed - must need the engine running although the wiring diagram suggests a direct feed ? Might help if I plug the test leads into the multimeter so I try again......relays have feed going to them, blower turns on when a/c depressed.......I'm now thinking the main relay isn't getting a circuit to operate ie no engine run signal from the ECM but I'm not sure how I can confirm this without frying the ECM. Again looking at the wiring diagram a simple voltage test between a 12V and the wire that goes back to the ECM should reveal 0V with engine off and 12V with engine running (all with no harm to the ECM). ? |

Are you getting 12v to fuse 39 5amp if answer is yes R100 is work
wire diagram see below https://1drv.ms/b/s!AtZSoWFHDgnGhDbxYedTopmyd1rA Last edited by dorsetsmith on 17th Jul 2017 7:36pm. Edited 1 time in total |

thanks for sticking with me on this.
R100 working and I've got two feeds at the compressor relay R181 just need to check the earth path for the relay to energise and bring the in the supply to the compressor.....back to page 2 and more testing? |

can't figure this - R181. the relay works I've 'bench' tested it with 12V across terminals 1 and 2 and you can hear and feel the relay kicking in and out. with the ignition on terminals 1 and 2 on the relay base / holder have 12V across them but when I plug the relay in nothing / no clicking? any thoughts on how that can be? Sorry I cannot help right now with this. Away on vacation and already getting evils from wifey for even looking at my phone.
If R181 is not activating then barring a wiring fault, the ECM is not allowing the relay to close by not providing a -ve. From my memory then this is either thermostat or gas level. Really sorry I cannot help right now. Just work your way through the circuit with engine running and AC switch on. You cannot cook anything as long as your multimeter is measuring voltage! I've done some more checking and I simply can't get my head around the compressor clutch relay?
I have two feeds going to it. I have 12v across the live and the connect to the ecm so why when I plug the relay in does it not click.....the relay does work when I 'bench' test it? Surely when I plug it in it should click?? I've had to pack in for the night. My gut feeling is low gas pressure but looking at the wiring diagram I'm thinking the blower wouldn't work if I had a low (or high) pressure issue? |

Measure the clutch coil resistance (ohms) and post here. Sounds like a coil issue... My 10th Land Rover, but my first Defender.

You mean the coil of the relay?
