Like steve says, going via a Snorkel is the best way to do it if possible and one of the main reasons for me fitting one. Alternatively you can get a sort of "tray" that the cables can run in up the windscreen from Equipe 4x4 (Tim @ Trek Overland is the UK importer) but I've not seen it in person so can't comment on looks.

To be honest, I'd run two twin core 3mm feeds up to the roof, then just neatly join two 1mm twin core into each feed via a solder and heatshrink joint. This gives a few advantages, 1) Nice and compact. 2) Redundancy should one cable fail anywhere, i.e you won't lose everything. 3) Slimmer overall cable diameters, making it easier to run and hide (compared to doing something like a bulky twin 6mm) 4) Much easier to solder and not reliant on mechanical joints.

I'd utilise one larger conduit run for the two feeds, and also to hide and contain the solder joints (make sure you stagger them to keep size down) and then utilise some sealed T junctions to branch off for each of the four lights, terminating in a superseal connector or similar with a conduit adapter on the back of it to neaten everything up. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

Thanks gents, all good advice, and is all noted.

I'll take it all onboard except perhaps the hole in the roof.

You see, there is already a cable run unto the headlining and a plugged hole in the roof, so I'd like to utilise that instead of a whole new cable run up via the snorkel.

Photobucket is down just now, otherwise i'd attach some photo's illustrating the plug.

Cheers
Andy

Compression cable gland, wires in un-split conduit.
Cable entry / exit can be adhesive heatshrink with some Silicone in it at the exact point the wires exit.

There are various cable gland styles and types around, but imo a compression fitting is much much better than a blind grommet or similar on an exterior.
If you have a Snorjek or RAI that can be an ideal cable run area instead and avoid any holes in the roof all together.

Just to clarify, do you mean run the cable up the side of the snorkel, or inside the snorkel. Sorry just want to be clear.

Sorry I missed this thread for a while.
On the exterior of the Snorkel but nearest the LR side, it's fairly hidden then and you could use zip ties to secure.
Or some adhesive plastic cable clips.

It just an idea of possible use. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Yep, for your use I'd definitely use as I suggested then straight onto the rack to the lights.

You'd barely even notice it. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Ok, think you might have convinced me.

Looks like i will be removing old wiring this weekend......

So, I assume you run the new wiring into the engine bay between the bulkhead and bonnet and then over the back towards the passenger side then down into the battery box?

The plugged hole is neat and not water ingress, so not sure i fancy dicking around with that........

Hi all,

Ok, have all the parts amassed, started tackling this job at the weekend.

Started by jigging out the T-connectors around where I want them to go and also where the conduit between.

I have taken the short snake down into the garage to run the upper cables, I intend to solder and splice the cables for the rack in my garage, then when that part of the loom is complete, transfer it to the vehicle, then run the lower part of the loom into the battery box, where I will then solder the cables together.

All a bit trial and error!

Will post pictures once I have soldered and fitted the top loom.

Cheers
Andy
