It's a shame they are demonising diesel as this would make a cracking engine swap into a Defender. Sounds a corker. 1951 80" S1 2.0

Or there is Ford's replacement for the Puma unit.

Would probably be an easier lump to marry up with the existing Puma mountings and bell housing. It replaced the Puma engine in the Transit, so i would think it was designed to be able to marry up with the existing transit bits and fit where a Puma engine once did.

Interesting the both - especially the new Ford Diesel - thanks for sharing.

Yes, looks like a ripper, it's amazing the sort of performance that can be obtained from a "small" engine these days,....I suppose, in some form, it will appear in the "New" Defender.

Engine performance and capacity have been inversely proportional for years, when you think a 2ltr Petrol Sierra used to be about 90bhp. You can easily get that from a 1.4 Diesel engine these days.

It's not just horse power though, but economy too. You could squeeze 25mpg out of a 4.4 BMW V8 powered L322, but a 3.5ltr Range Rover classic you'd be lucky to squeeze 15 out of them!

I expect the new Defender will undoubtedly use the Ingenium. They also do a petrol version of the Ingenium.

If you think about it, imagine going up to a Diesel Series 1 driver in the 1950s and telling him/her that in 2007 you'll be able to buy the latest Series Land Rover with a 2.4 diesel engine so powerful the car has to be limited to 90mph to stop the tyres falling apart and it still manages 30mpg.... they'd have burst into fits of laughter!
