Reverse light switch
Hi we have a 1986 ex military 90 which has a2.5 N/A engine coupled to a LT 77 gearbox, the Land Rover doesn't have a reverse light fitted my question is please can someone tell me where it would be located if the hole for a reverse light switch is still there or would the military gearbox of been supplied without the hole,if that's the case I will fit a manual switch to a rear work light not ideal but it's what I've done in the past with my series Land Rovers any advice with this would be gratefully received Thumbs Up many thanks Paul Tash n Barney

I replaced the reverse light switch on my LT77 only last weekend, so this may help:

Old and new switch:

Switch installed on rear of selector block, accessed through middle seatbox panel:

The switch fitted to mine is the later version, which is quite expensive, although I found somebody on eBay with some new-old stock so only paid about £20. There is an earlier, and much cheaper version, but it requires a separate locking nut that doesn't generally come with the switch. Darren

Im sure when I was on eurocarpars the other day that if you put in your reg and look at a category something like 'switches' for the vehicle they sell and locally (to me at least) stock the reverse and brake light screw in switches and they were around £8

That'll be the older version, PRC2911, that looks like this:

They can be had for under a fiver on eBay but, as I said, need a locking nut. They are marginally more tricky to set up. Darren

I've just had a look at the parts manual and it shows a blanking screw next to the filler plug, on the gearbox remote, it's very vague but a search of the part number shows it to be a 3/8 unc bolt... I suspect that's the one you're look for

Item 27 is the blanking screw (bolt) and 28 is described as a filler plug for the LT77

Looking at LandRoverAnorak's picture you can see where the filler plug should be in the earlier version of the LT77 Thumbs Up RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!!

I expect the switch has the same thread as the Mini one which has 3/8" UNC.

Shocked How much Shocked

I paid less than a fiver for an RRC reverse switch on the bay of fleas... delivered.. Although I must admit it didn't come with the locking nut which is critical to the set up... and the Range Rover switch is 6.3mm (1/4") spade terminals. RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!!

That Mini one isn't the correct switch but the lock nut is useful if you want to use PRC2911 shown above. Darren

I'd expect it still fits, although you'd have to cut off the bullets and put spade connectors on it.

It's a half nut, but any decent fixings supplier should be able to get them.

Yes I know it's a half nut, I changed my switch last week! But to be honest it was a pita to get the spanner on the half nut.. there is very little room for error, and as there is over half the thread exposed, a full nut will fit easily, and give you a bit more to aim at!

FYI I am only reporting my experiences changing the switch on an RRC, which from what I can tell has a different remote on the box, and is a bit more key hole surgery having removed the centre console.. the Defender looks really accessible Thumbs Up RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!!

It might do, but why faff around when the correct one is available and cheaper? Darren
