M94PUMA,
I was wondering if, since changing the injector seals, has your oil consumption improved ? Still haven't done mine yet.
cheers

Hi there,
I can happily say since changing the injector seals all oil consumption and blue smoke has stopped!!

Interesting, wonder why?

Reduction in back pressure acting on the rings allowing oil to come-up?

Cheers

less combustion gases escaping past the injector seals that was creating crank case pressure in the cam cover area driving oil up the breather pipe and through the turbo, inter-cooler and ultimately the engine, would be my guess DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Bit of an update:
I ordered the 3 sets of seals then bottled out so I asked my local guy who is a real Ed China to do the job. He has done quite a few Transits and has done perfect jobs on previous cars for me but not yet the Defender. An hour later he drives up to the house with one of my injectors in his hand baffled as why the tip has worn so thin after only 50k. He suspected over use of a fuel additive such as Dipetane ( which keeps everything clean but increases combustion temperatures )to the extent that the tips wear until they break leading to a sudden rush of diesel at huge psi, over revving, bang etc.

Of course I've been using Dipetane for years since I stopped using 2SO. Apparently it should only be used occasionally, like, for instance, Forte.
So I spent € 800 on four new injectors from a Transit spares firm - only a hundred quid dearer than getting them re tipped and Steve fitted them today, coded in the 16 digit numbers and did a pilot learn.

Back from a long spin and compared to the last 5 years its running like a Swiss watch. Incidentally out of the four old injectors only one had a worn copper seal and was covered in crud. Ironically it also had the least worn tip !

I'm gutted at coughing up the best part of a grand but in fairness I've spent very little in the last 6 years other than tyres and oil and it was kind of my fault if Dipetane was to blame. Who knows.

There's plenty of topics on the forum regarding fuel additives so maybe the moral of the story is to use good branded diesel and nothing else

.
