Re: GPS navigation signal double din unit

I've recently installed an Alpine double din unit, mostly for the navigation so we don't need to use phones/tablets. Disappointingly, the GPS reception is shocking. Doesn't matter if I'm in or outside of London, on any of the motorways, countryside, etc. I've placed the antenna behind the centre clock but under the dash (i.e. out of sight under the plastic). Any recommendations of what's a better location? Also it comes with a very long cable, so I'm wondering if it would make a difference to run it around the windscreen, perhaps place the plastic end receiver somewhere on the windscreen too, or even outside (don't think it's watertight though)? Comments/advice most appreciated.

You need to attach a 10cm x 10cm steel plate under the GPS aerial.....

I have my GPS aerial fitted in the same position with the steel plate and I'haven't any trouble.... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
