Convert from left hand drive to right hand drive
Evening all,

I have a mate who is wanting to bring his 110 (2016 model) over from the middle east and is curious how much it would cost to do the conversion and other than Nene Overland any suggestions on reputable converters?

He could sell it in Dubai but would take a large hit so would prefer to bring it with him and keep it.

Cheers

Steve

I've been researching the other way around RHD to LHD.
It's not worth it - sell the one, and buy another easier and cheaper.

With the Meccano kit that is a Defender, anything is possible. It's rarely cost effective on a newer vehicle though, as people are usually more keen to use new parts. If the intention is then to pay somebody else to do it, rather than DIY, then the cost becomes astronomical, as it's a pretty labour intensive task. Darren

Keep it a left hooker, has all sorts of advantages especially on narrow country lanes when an oncoming driver taking most of the road has a view of what appears to be the driver of a 110 with her arms crossed across her face ready for impact - the look on their faces is epic!

Also if you do something stupid your passenger gets grief, the roads are so crowded overtaking isn't an issue and every time you go across the channel someone asks to buy it...

If it was a td5 he could come to me and we swap parts as I have a RHD in The Netherlands. Mr. Green Roel

As a matter of interest, how much work and parts is actually involved in this?

Having driven rhd on the continent I'd say it's not that bad doing the reverse. Not many overtaking opportunities in a defender anyway!

Parts wise I'd guess:
Dash, maybe bulkhead, all the wiring looms that go to the dash, heater box? Wiper motors, steering box or mountings, and probably more that I haven't thought of!

Are the dash parts not able to swap sides?

I'd agree with the other sentiments though, leave it as a left hooker. Only an issue if you want to go into automated car parks or the toll road. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

Bulkhead
Heatermatrix
Dash
Pas pipes
Steering box
Drop arm
Hubs?
Re-route loom
Wiper motor
Wiper arms
Headlights (given anyway)
Wings (intake etc)

That's a quick list probably missed a few bits and working off a 300tdi from memory but I'd say it's more than likely the same. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

I brought my 2001 TD5 with me when I moved here from Bosnia, kept it LHD and sold it in 2011 for more than I would have got for a RHD one. There’s always someone who does a lot of Continental touring willing to pay a premium (my buyer dealt in classic cars and was often required to deliver them abroad).

I replaced it with a 2.4 - worst thing I ever did, but that’s another story - ordered that one too in LHD. Occasionally have to lean forwards or backwards at road junctions to see around passengers, otherwise no difference in driving and much more practical for foreign travel.

Counterintuitive to change it from LHD.

About £3-4k in parts and 70hrs of at home labour.

Surely you don't need a new bulkhead? Drill a few holes and fill a few old holes but the bulkheads aren't actually different?!
The extra holes aren't going to bi seen by anyone anyway so wouldn't matter too much. If you're keeping the truck anyway I mean...

Not that simple...not on a Puma engined one anyway. Shape differences around the pedal box mounts and transmission tunnel on both sides. Only way to do it safely would be new bulkhead.
