Defender screens are really simple to do, I could have one in and out in less than 10 mins I reckon (though I did do it for a living) . So it won't be an issue for any good windscreen company.
Check your insurance that it won't effect the no claims bonus. I'd leave it until spring, there's still time for plenty of frosty mornings and GRITTERS to be out, the screen will be safe as anything. In fact if it's less than 5p, I'd leave it, period. |

When i had my windscreen changed due to a chip that turned into a long horizontal crack, like you say the professionals do it in no time and i did it through my insurance and it did not affect my no claims at all 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Thanks, if memory serves they arent bonded like newer windscreens?
The chip itself is a tiny external chip, but its a bit bigger under the laminate... a bit bigger than 5p in right in the lower drivers sight line. Autoglass wont approve a genuine pilkington replacement without checking with the insurers first which adds a frustrating delay and the more i think of it, the more i remember all none genuine glass ive had hasnt lasted well when heated so i think i want a pilkington or LR branded one? I would say do you fancy popping round to do it - but its an insurance job i think Mike |

I had the windscreen on my 2015 110 replaced last year after a stone chip / crack. I asked Autoglass to source a replacement from a dealer, which they did no problem and it only took a couple of days longer than a non dealer unit. They aren't bonded in the way modern vehicles are. As Greeni says it is a 10 minute out and in for an experienced fitter, still using the trusty string and toggles!

I'd be 99.5% confident Pilkington make the Land Rover version. Don't get hung up on it being branded, it's just a badge.
I guarantee Lode Lane don't have a glass plant. The company I worked for had their own factory and couldn't do heated screens, they came fromPilkington. |

Thanks guys
Ive been bitten a few times with the cheapy autoglass (autowindscreens/aa screens et al) screens (although mainly more premium vehicles like the RRS and D4), but on the 300tdi disco, the heated screen was replaced 4/5 times over the life and would often break after 2 winters until i requested a pilkington glass which then was rock solid until i sold it - i do believe they are just better made or have better quality control....but then im also a firm believer that often genuine part quality control and manufacturing tolerances ensure the parts are often "better" in the long run Anyway - glad to hear autoglass was ok and subject to our insurance green light, were able to fit it and do a good job (and that its easier than modern cars)...just need to wait and see Thanks Mike |

I have always had Pilkington (either Pilkington branded or Landrover branded - they're the same apart from the logo) when I have needed one. I seem to get through on average one avery couple of years (think I'm on number four at the moment since 2010).
I've never had problems with Pilkington glass, except that it breaks when rocks thrown up by other vehicles hit it! |

I had my windscreen replaced with a non-branded 'screen about 3 weeks ago, it already has a tiny chip and a scratch

Martin, you are of course right for the Defender!
It's my Disco 2 which has had both LR and Pilkingotn branded screens. I always insist on gen Pilkington, and use an independent fitter, not one of the big, cheapo, any-brand, insurance-recommended chains. |

Just a note for everyone (ive found out after having the wrong one fitted) there are 4 windscreens for the defender.
2 none tinted (heated and not) 2 green tinted (heated and not). Clear is more expensive! Mike |

Seriously, they fitted the new one, content it wasn't the tinted version, but the bloody thing is leaking! Mike

I'm planning to get my screen resealed when it warms up a bit. Has anyone bought a genuine rubber and if so how much was it and where did you buy it. £10 for a non genuine one just seems a little cheap. ? Thanks in advance

The fitters said to me about seats and that the genuine seal was the best (mine is so new they used the original) Mike
