Hello
Initially I'm going to have a go at brushing / roller Searching the web suggest good results and I can at least have a go, proper spray job will be many pennies... Does that alter what I choose? I've e-mailed the other company thanks for a quote as the colour was not in the LR choice they had. |

As Greeni said, Paragon come up quite a lot on this subject.
I've seen lots of hand painted series land rovers, some plain ugly, some you would find it hard to know if it was sprayed or brushed. A good coach enamel flatted between coats will give a good Results, take your time with the prep work and you will get a good Finnish. Tractol is quite a popular one too. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I have used the paint man paint for my grandsons toylander with good results.You need to buy a really good bristle brush ,like a Hamilton.i rolled it on and then brushed it over.You need to do it in a well ventilated area though as it's coach enamel and quite potent

Paintman paints are the most expensive and I've seen reference to his paint being supplied by HMG.
I used Tekaloid T318 and as Ian says Tractol is another popular choice. I bought all my paint from Avenue Coatings via their tools-paint website: http://tools-paint.com/commercial-vehicles...2783-c.asp You can get a decent finish with a glossing roller to get an even coat and then brush out with a high quality brush. It can be wet flatted before, in-between and after each coat. Preparation of the underlying surface is everything. Mine ended up with a very slight orange peel after 3 coats of Tekaloid, which I could flat out and polish if I was really bothered by it, but it's fine on my battered old truck: [URL=]  Click image to enlarge[/URL][/url] Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated  |

My 52 80" was hand painted, not by me but the previous owner,
And apart from a few little bits here and there I don't think he did a bad job? Some areas are starting to lift slightly but that's just down to wear and tear, stone chips etc. Click image to enlarge 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I have used Paintman paints for brushing and they seem to be good to use but I am no expert. Unfortunately he is about to go from expensive to very expensive as he is putting his prices up by 20% on the first of March, he says this due to having to become VAT registered which is a bit weird.?

I have used paddocks hmg limestone paint for brush/roller painting and have not had too many problems. It does need thinning down slightly but has good coverage. I am in the process of painting a set of rims , the previous ones done in the same paint have lasted about 10 years. Two things I noticed was that you can't lacquer the paint as it crazed and is a bit soft round the wheel stud holes, but not sure if that is down the paint or the choice of primer.

Why weird? - if he turns over more than the VAT threshold, then he has to add VAT..... yes, he can reclaim it on inputs, but may not have that many - so the cost is going to go up.... |

I thought it wiered in that prices where going up by the same as the VAT which seemed like he was not factoring in the reduction of his costs resulting from him now being able to recover the VAT on his business expenses that he had previously not been able to recover.
