Another bulkhead question. early and late TD5 diffences.
Another bulkhead question.
The late TD5 bulkhead has an extra bracket which I think is for a wiper motor . Think it moved position.
Is it just a mater of cutting this off and redrilling the holes for the orignal or can i leave the bracket and buy the plastic cover and fit with my old dash.
Am I missing any other diffences.
Thanks.

Rod

Cut off the later wiper bracket.

You need to fit a couple of rivnuts for the wiper motor to fit in the original position

You also need to fit newer wiper wheel boxes, and fit a different gear wheel to the motor (£15 and dead easy)

make a cut out of the centre bracket which holds the dash to clear the wiper rack tube. Also modify the bracket slightly where it meets the dash.

There are some differences. See http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic49854.html for pics of my original 1999 bulkhead and the 2002 onwards bulkhead.

Wiper motor mount is one, there are some holes that needed blanking off, which if I had known I would have plated, welded and sprayed. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Also the very last td5 bulkheads made in 2015/16 are a strange amalgamation of td5 top half and Puma bottom. They have vents and bracketry for the late td5 dash but with Puma heater duct cutouts and Puma wiring loom holes

Glad its of help. I didn't swap the wiper boxes over, as I only did them about 12-18months ago....maybe I should have taken the chance to....but hey. 1999 Defender TD5 110
