Veethree tachometer - anyone with experience?
Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help.

I picked up this (Veethree branded) tachometer thinking it'd be good for a tdi. It over-reads like crazy, shooting up to 4,000rpm on startup.

Has anyone used this brand before? I just presumed it'd be for a diesel given the 4000rpm limit.

Serves me right for being a cheapskate I guess...

After doing some digging about on there website it looks as yours is a programmable type :-http://www.veethree.com/programmable-tachometers.html
The gauge should have come with a chart so you can set your dil switches to the correct setting for a 4cyl alternator driven signal.

Kind Regards

Thanks so much Will Thumbs Up

It turned out there was a rubber bung you can remove and behind it some switches to configure for 4,6,8 cylinder etc.

It works now and I'd rate them, about a third the price of a VDO unit and solid metal and glass construction.

Cheers

So far it idles at about 800rpm and max around 4,000 but not sure how accurate it is.

One wire from the 'W' post on my Marelli alternator (meant for a 300tdi but take the serpentine pulley off and it'll fit the 200).

2 wires for positive and earth.

You should fit it, seems quite the luxury having a working tacho on an old landy! Thumbs Up
